Trip Summary

Plan two of our visit to the Tasman Peninsula was to hike out to Cape Raoul. We thus "switched over" from Fortescue Bay to Nubeena in the west of Port Arthur, and following the signs towards Cape Raoul from there, parking right next to the trail head, at about the end of the road, south of Stormlea. The very well marked trail to Cape Raoul leads first (gently) up (through the forest) to a nice vista point, Cape Raoul Lookout, high above the tall western cliffs of Mount Raoul. From there, it's then southwards (parallel to the cliffs) into the direction of Cape Raoul. We again had luck with the weather and enjoyed walking out there very much. Before actually getting to the southern-most tip of Cape Raoul, we passed by a particularly nice place ("The Gap"), where one (a) gets a nice view along the high, western cliffs of Cape Raoul, as well as (b) a nice view back, across a little lake, to Mount Raoul. From there, it's then not far anymore to get "all the way out" to Cape Raoul. At the very end of this trail, one can choose between two viewing spots (or easily do both!), one (a bit more to the east) which offers views down to a seal colony at Cape Raoul and one (at the southern-most tip) with great all-around views. We did not only visit both viewing spots, but also tried the "seal lookout" twice (since we hoped to see more of the seals). Once "done" with Cape Raoul, we followed the same trail back, but included a little detour from the high point next Mount Raoul (into the direction of Tunnel Bay), offering yet again amazing views from high above the cliffs at Shipstern Lookout. All in all, also this hike to Cape Raoul was very nice! :-)
