Trip Summary

After lunch, I made myself ready for another bike-trip: this time in the northwest of the Carpartian mountains back to Austria. For the third time in three days, I headed first westwards (and into the Carpartian mountains), following the forest road south of Havranica and Záruby. While this forest road is really nice near Smolenica castle, it gets a bit more rough a bit further west (and higher up in the mountains). Still, it was straight-forward to traverse it, even with all the luggage. The descent on the other side, to Plavecký Mikuláš, was partly quite steep, but cycling down there was still possible without real difficulties. I then cycled along road 501 which brought me through Sološnica and Rohožník to Pernek. Further down the same road, I then arrived in Lozorno. South of Lozorno, I then crossed over the highway in order to connect to Zohor. South of Zohor, I then misjudged the map, thinking that I could get into the nature east of the March from the north. After a short retreat, I then found my way around and a bit furhter south, I then entered this very nice nature area in the northeast of March (and the border). Following a nice bike trail, I then connected to the place, where a convenient bike bridge crosses over the March. On the other side, already in Austria, I then only cycled to the train station of Marchegg in order to take a train from there to Vienna (I considered for a moment to cycle all the way, but considering that this would have brought me back to Vienna very late, I decided to "short-cut" part of this journey with the train). All in all, I was very satisfied with this bike trip, already: biking along the northwestern foothills of the Carpartians was as nice as I had expected. :-)
