After failing to locate Fjeldborg two days earlier , I decided to have another go, if only to check a couple of areas I had not covered on my previous attempt. Today I mainly focused on the area southeast of Landåsfjellet , but sadly no luck there either. I'm starting to realize that this task is perhaps the hiking-equivalent of looking for a needle in a haystack... Update: It later turned out that I had visited the location of Fjeldborg without realizing it as part of my initial search. See knutsverre (Knut S. Andersen) 's report from May 12th 2021 .

Searching for Fjeldborg at Landåsfjellet

I had initially given up on trying to find Fjeldborg at Landåsfjellet due to very limited information regarding its location. But after reading knutsverre (Knut S. Andersen) 's recent trip report where he mentioned the characteristic rocks behind the cabin that are prominent in both pictures in Bergensernes Fjellverden II (BF II) (also included in Knut Sverre's report), I decided to give it a go anyway. Old aerial photographs did not provide any clues this time around, i.e. I had to depend on visiting potential locations and hope for the best. It has been suggested that Fjeldborg was most likely located close to Fjelly and Stulihaugen . I still decided to expand my search and thus started looking for possible locations already when approaching Orrehaugane . I started by taking the bus to Arna and getting off at the bus stop called Hammaren. From there I shortly followed a paved road before switching to an old tractor road heading north and then southwest to circumvent a house. It turned out that this short detour was not necessary though as there was also a shortcut just to the south of the house. The tractor road quickly turned into a nice unmarked trail that I could easily follow all the way to Fabiansvarden . Which, despite its name, did not include any cairn that I could find. The views were also rather limited and I therefore did not stay long before making a large U-turn on my way south towards Merkeshaugen , soon even on a marked trail. No markers on the summit itself, but there was a small single-rock cairn south of the summit, which is maybe where the name comes >>>
