I was already travelling in Norway, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to look for a mountain away from the more popular trails and well-known hiking destinations. Although I have some experience in rock climbing, I had never done any real alpine mountaineering. I consider myself comfortable with navigation, terrain assessment and making sensible decisions outdoors, but I knew that these skills alone do not make someone a mountaineer. Because of that, this trip was never about proving anything. I wanted it to become a learning experience. A chance to see whether I could analyse a mountain using maps, satellite imagery and contour lines, identify what I believed to be the safest and most logical line of ascent, and then validate those assumptions >>>
