Jubiläumswarte and Heuberg from Hütteldorf

Distance:
9.0km

Before returning to Bergen from a meeting in Vienna, I had time for half a day for sightseeing. As I did not want to spend all of this time in the city center, I started by taking the underground to Hütteldorf to visit the Jubiläumswarte and Heuberg . The former provided excellent panoramic views from the top of a tall tower, while the latter had no views, and while easily reached is probably more of a point that people pass by when walking along the many nice paths in the area and less of a goal in itself. After a couple of pictures, I returned the same way and continued with some more traditional sightseeing .

Petter and Fredrik picked me up at my place shortly after seven for the drive to Tørvikbygd and the ferry to Jondal. After crossing the fjord, we ascended to Dravladalsvatnet where we parked next to the marked trailhead for Saksaklepp and were shortly on our way up the well-marked trail towards the summit. Due to a relatively dense fog, the minor detour to Bjørnafetet was skipped, and a short descent later we could begin the final ascent to the summit, which was reached without any issues. From Saksaklepp we continued off-trail in the direction of Veranuten , largely following in the footsteps of Guttorm and his GPS track from 2023 , with some minor adjustments. This resulted in an overall straightforward route, and while the north face of Veranuten looked steep from a distance, it was actually relatively easy to find a route that was neither exposed nor very >>>

On what would most likely turn out to be one of the last days of proper summer this time around, I managed to convince two of my colleagues (one former and one current) to join me on a hike to Gjønakvitingen , a peak that had been on my list for a while, but that is not easy to get to without a car. We left Bergen a bit after nine and after a drive of less than 1.5 hours we arrived at Gjøn where we parked at the first small parking lot marked for hikers and were ready to start hiking shortly after half past ten. I had read that there was an information sign at the trailhead and a marked trail all the way to the summit. We however failed to locate both the trailhead and the marked trail. With the 5G coverage also being far from perfect, and with no people around to ask, I largely had to rely on memory and went for the tractor road winding its way up >>>

Storeflåtten from Bjotveit

After taking the train to Voss, I continued by bus to Bjotveit. Here I got off at the stop “Indre Bjotveit”, which put me directly at the start of the route to Storeflåtten . I started by following a side road up to a small cluster of buildings at Ytre Bjotveit before continuing on an older tractor road via Mjølstølen to connect with a newer tractor road coming up from Mjøstølsviki (around 1.3 km further west). This new road however quickly came to an end and from there I began on the largely unmarked trail to Vatnasetevatnet. The trail was overall easy to follow, although for the final section it was not always straightforward to locate the next cairn, which at this point were partly marked by a combination of faded red T's and newer pink dots. Note that early on the trail crosses Bjotveitelvi which >>>
