Sunday hike to Hanakamb organized by Voss Utferdslag. I started by taking an early train to Voss where I met up with the other hikers for the drive to Kvitno via the ferry from Kvanndal to Utne. Upon arriving at the trailhead the small parking lot with room for perhaps 2-3 cars was already full and we therefore parked on the other side of the road (although this is probably more of a bus stop, i.e. be prepared for potential parking tickets if going for this option).

After a shortcut from the marked trailhead we passed by Kvitno kraftverk and continued on a tractor road up to the start of the marked trail just where the road came to an end. A steep and sometimes slippery trail then took us up to the beautiful Raunsdalsvatnet. This section was overall straightforward but one should pay extra care towards the end where the trail goes quite close to the powerful river Kvitnelvi.

At Raunsdalsvatnet we had a lunch break to enjoy the excellent scenery before continuing on the marked trail to the summit of Hanakamb. This included both lots of wet areas and a couple of relatively steep (but not exposed) sections bordering on scrambling, but for the latter there were thankfully always lots of branches to hold on to. The summit provided spectacular views, although the weather conditions did their best to reduce the impact. We therefore did not stay too long before descending along the same route to Kvitno.

Usually, this is end of the trip report, but on the drive back to Bergen via Jondal with one of the other hikers we managed to puncture both tires on the righthand side of the car! The reason being that when making space for a car coming the other way we drove too far to the right and hit the steep drop of the asphalt shoulder. There was nothing to do but call for help, bringing back memories from the skiing trip to Midtfjell. To make a long story short, two hours later we had two new tires and could finally complete the drive home.

To conclude, a visit to Raunsdalsvatnet and Hanakamb from Kvitno can be very highly recommended. Just avoid the steep asphalt shoulders on the way home. ;)

The scenery around Raundalsvatnet looks amazing!

And puncturing two tires is an achievement that not many manage "in one go" -- also wow! :-)

Yes, the scenery around Raunsdalsvatnet is definitely worth a hike on its own! And from what I can tell from the other trip reports the views are even better in sunny weather! :)
