Ingebjørgfjellet from Tveitavegen
Sunday skiing trip to Ingebjørgfjellet organized by the Norwegian Trekking Association, or more specifically Voss Utferdslag. The initial plan had also included Oksen, but given difficult conditions in the valley between the two summits, and the overall length of such a combined trip, the plan had in advance been reduced to just Ingebjørgfjellet.
After getting up at 05:30 in the morning, I was on the train from Bergen to Voss at 07:07. At Voss I met up with the others around 09:00 and we all car-pooled to the start of the trip at the crossroads of Tveitavegen and Stokkselvegen above Granvin. In the summer it is possible to pay a toll and drive up to Stokksel, but today this was not really an option as this road was, at least at the start, very icy.
We therefore put on the climbing skins by the cars and proceeded to carry the skis over the first icy stretch before putting them on and following the road up to Stokksel. Here we left the road behind for good and continued southeast between the trees up Stokkseldalen until, after a short break, turning southwest and starting the final long ascent to the summit of Ingebjørgfjellet.
As we approached the summit the sun reappeared from behind the clouds and allowed us to take full advantage of the spectacular views! Combined with next to no wind, the summit area also provided an excellent location for our lunch break.
The sun was still shining when we later started the almost 1000 meters descent back to the cars. Close to perfect conditions for skiing, almost all the way from the summit until returning to Stokksel. (Note that there are a lot of trees to avoid for the final stretch to Stokksel, hence this section may be considered slightly more advanced, at least in less optimal snow conditions.)
All that remained was then the icy road down to the cars. A bit of a letdown compared to the excellent conditions further up, but thankfully we all managed to reach the cars without any issues.
To conclude, a near perfect skiing trip that can be very highly recommended!
