Cycling: Våge - Reksteren - Våge
- Date:

- Bike trip - road
- Duration:
- 7:01h
- Distance:
- 40.8km
After last year's excellent trip where I cycled from Våge to Reksteren to ascend Gjøvågsfjellet , I decided to repeat the success and return to Reksteren for the two summits I had not had the time to ascend last time, namely Vardafjellet and Dalstuva . Again, I first cycled to the Bergen city center, brought the bike with me on the bus to Halhjem, and from there took the ferry to Våge. Here I started the GPS and followed the same route as the year before, although now thankfully only to Smievoll and Frøkjedalsvatnet (and not (almost) all the way to Gjøvåg). Here I left the bike behind and continued north on the trail along the lake. See the separate trip report for the ascents of Vardafjellet and Dalstuva .
Upon later returning to the bike, I cycled back the same way, making it to Våge with almost 30 minutes to spare before the ferry. After the break on the ferry, it was time for the bus ride back to Bergen, which last time >>>
Snilstveitøy: Veten and Eidsvikåsen

- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 3:23h
- Distance:
- 12.5km
Last fall I figured out that it ought to be possible to use the high-speed passenger ferry from Bergen to Rosendal to visit both summits at Snilstveitøy in one hike. This however depended on the ferry's summer timetable and I did not manage try before it was too late. Half a year later it was now finally time to test if the plan could be executed successfully. I started by taking the ferry from Bergen to Snilstveitøy, although I almost ended up at Rosendal as the crew had forgotten that I was supposed to get off at Snilstveitøy (as the only passenger doing so). Thankfully I was able to inform them in time and a quick U-turn took care of the problem.
At Snilstveitøy, I followed the gravel road west and soon came across the first sign for Veten . 200 meters later I arrived at the marked trailhead. >>>

Upon completing our trip to Sjøbua , we decided to take inspiration from Kjell51 (Kjell Øijorden) 's earlier hike at Marøy . We therefore drove the short distance northeast to a parking lot intended for hikers and followed the trails west/northwest. Here there were lots of traces of buildings made by the Germans during the second world war. Again, the strong northerly wind reduced our desire to explore. I did however make a short detour on my own to the small lighthouse at the northwestern tip of the island, for some great views towards the sea and the island of Fedje. When returning to the parking lot, I also made a minor detour to visit the highest point on Marøy .

After the short walk around Kvassnesstemma , we drove north to Radøy for a visit of Sjøbua . From the parking lot to the cabin there is only around 700 meters and, especially for the latter half, there is excellent views along the way. Excellent views from the cabin as well, although today a strong northerly wind cut our stay short. I did however do a quick detour on my own to the peninsula of Byngjo, before we all returned to the parking lot.

When having to wait roughly half an hour at Knarvik, we decided to spend the time trying out the gravel road around Kvassnesstemma . This turned out to be a very nice short walk with great views along the way. Highly recommended if in the area and not having enough time for a proper hike.
Storås and Klauv from Våge

I have to admit that peak bagging via public transportation has its added challenges, especially when the distance to the trailhead from the nearest bus stop is almost 9.5 km. But in the case of Storås in Sveio , that distance could thankfully be easily covered by following a side road with limited traffic.
The trip started by taking the express bus from Bergen to Sveio and getting off at the stop with the interesting name "Søre Våge sør". I immediately left the main road heading south to Haugesund, and instead turned east on a smaller single-lane road. Soon I even left Sveio, entering Haugesund and Rogaland, and would not reenter Sveio until almost an hour later. On my way I also passed by the trailhead for the highest summit in Haugesund called Klauv , which I planned to ascend on my way back (if time permitted).
