Multicoloured mountains

Date:
13.08.2024

From near Frovika by Marka veien (dirt road) and waymarked trail to Vattind summit then NE to near Haga-fjellet and round east side of Hundoyran to return via Vestgard (farm). An astonishing bare landscape of rough rock, bleached and coloured by natural processes into a wide array of ochres, orange and reds, interspersed with tiny oases of vegetation and some clear lue lakes. The marked trail is very well provided with waymarks, but this did not prevent a wrong turn at a critical point, andhalf an hour wandering among some of the most harsh landscapes in Norway, with enormous rocks, crevices, scree and small streams. A real work-out, finishing with a steep descent to a very boggy section. A direct route from the large lake Nesvatnet to Hundoyran appeared possible, inspiring a return visit (09/06/25) >>>

Explorations on Senja Hesten

Date:
31.07.2024

From near Finnjorda by Storvatnet to Lyshorntinden, retreated from connecting ridge to Storvatnet and rejoined main path to Sjursviktinden. Sjursviktinden is reached by a broad, popular path. The side peak of Lyshorntinden (omitted from PB), is not frequented. The route took me across the outflow from a large lake (Storvatnet). Had a brief detour to Nordtuva (another missing PBE) from which I could see there was one possible weakness in a line of cliffs defending Lyshorntinden. This gave the route to the summit of Lyshorntinden. Unfortunately, the ridge North to Sjursviktindan proved too narrow and difficult for me to attempt to traverse it on my own and without a rope. So I retraced my steps, found the way down through the crags, and walked round Storvatnet to join the main path to Sjursviktinden. >>>

From Skaland by popular waymarked route. Visited neighbouring Litje Brusen on path, scrambling to summit.
