Muen - first of the new season's Norwegian mountians (29.05.2025)

Ascents Muen (1,424m) 29.05.2025

From fv27 (road) high point (1053m) by broad path to summit (1427m)
Muen is a plain lump of a mountain. The path is signposted and waymarked. There were in fact several broad paths all with the same purpose across the low shrub heath. The paths joined into one crossing a stony area, visible from a distance, and a smaller one which avoided it.
It was lovely to be back among mountain plants again: juniper scrub, dwarf birch and willow. Trailing azalea just coming into flower. Later we watched bluethroat at the car park and kestrel on the hill.
The second half of the climb was up a green boulderfield. The colour was caused by map lichen. There were a few people ahead. Muen only took 1ΒΌ hours to climb. We had lunch in the shelter of one of the many cairns and shelters on the top. The views were very fine, particularly of the mountains to the north and northeast in new snow.
We were followed up by at least 40 other people, so the path down was rather busy.
