Grønefjellet from Fossdalen

After our ascent of Austefjellet , Endre and I drove the short distance south and then northeast to Fossdalen. Here there was a marked parking lot for hikers , although we had it all to ourselves this afternoon. From the parking lot we followed the road north for another 200 meters before crossing Fossdalselva on a stone bridge and the continuing on a sparsely marked trail to Fossdalsstølen where the trail seemed to come to an end. The river was easily crossed just north of the cabin and from there we simply found our own way to the summit of Grønefjellet without coming across any real challenges, except for a deepening layer of wet snow. Our initial plan had been to continue to Skorefjellet , and Endre was even considering Stendarskarfjellet , but with the light quickly fading and the snow greatly slowing our progress, we quickly agreed to rather just return the same way. Austefjellet from Molland

To make the most of the forecasted longer break between the rain showers, Endre and I postponed our planned early start from Bergen and instead left around noon. Upon arriving at Molland it was still raining but after a couple of minutes of waiting in the car we put on our rain gear and proceeded to the marked trailhead for Austefjellet , and it would not take long before it stopped raining altogether. We had left our car next to the road just south of the northernmost houses in Molland, as learned from previous trip reports, but there was now a new small parking lot (with room for maybe 2-3 cars) just around the next corner. From there on there were signs and trail markers all the way to the summit. Given the easy-to-follow trail it did not take long before we arrived at the large summit cairn. A return to Arna on a windy Sunday with the main objective of visiting Åsen over Holereset , yet another minor peak on the Alle topper i Bergen list . I started by taking the train to Arna, from where the initial plan had been to walk along the paved roads up to Kvamsvegen p-plass , but when coming across a recently marked trail south of Vårheia , I of course took the chance to get off the road and instead followed the trail. After later reconnecting with the paved road I followed the trail up to Gapahuk Kvamme Gård and from there tried to continue on a tractor road and trail the map indicated would take me to the summit of Åsen over Holereset. The tractor road was however nothing more than a large opening between the trees and of the trail I did not see any traces until getting up on the ridge. Hålihovden, Hjortlandsåsen, Storhovden and Hovdane

I started from the last bus stop at Flaktveit and from there followed the trail on the eastern side of Kråvatnet. After crossing the bridge near the southern end of the lake, I continued south on a trail that soon disappeared underneath the snow. I was therefore was happy when later connecting with the tractor road coming up from Kalsåsvatnet. The tractor road turned into a trail that I followed until it started heading towards the gravel road west of Storhovden . Here I left the main trail and continued on a smaller trail through the old pine forest up to Hålihovden . Next up was Hjortlandsåsen/Furkammane , which only required a minor detour from the winding trail. From Hjortlandsåsen, I turned south for a quick visit of Storhovden and then headed off-trail towards the final peak of the day: Hovdane . Here I had a short break just north of the >>>

Lyshornet and Vardahaugane

A return to Lyshornet with the main objective of also visiting Vardahaugane , yet another minor peak on the Alle topper i Bergen list . I started by taking the bus to southwest of Lysekloster and from there followed the snow-covered gravel road to the marked trailhead for Lyshornet. The initially quite steep trail would have been easy to miss without the sign at the trailhead but, partly thanks to footprints in the snow, led me all the way to the excellent views at the top of Lyshornet. I continued east along the trail into the valley between Lyshornet and Vetla Lyshornet . Here I turned north and tried to follow a trail in the direction of Vardahaugane . But with the trail hidden underneath the snow and no longer any footprints leading the way, I was never sure whether I was on the trail or not. A return to Kalandseidet to visit two recent additions to the Alle topper i Bergen list . From the bus stop I followed the various roads to Hattråsdalen, only making a short detour to Styrshaugen, and then headed off-trail up the valley east of the summit of Hattråsen . Here I came across a trail marked with red and white plastic ribbons that took me almost to the summit. But when the trail started descending south along the ridge, I instead headed off-trail to the summit which, despite a minor fight with the many juniper bushes, was reached without any real issues. The summit provided views to the south but slightly better views could be obtained from just south of the highest point. I returned to the marked trail and proceeded to briefly follow it north in order to reconnect with the gravel road. But again the markers headed >>>

On a gray Sunday, and after a full day of hiking in Masfjorden the day before, I decided on a short hike to yet another minor peak on the Alle topper i Bergen list . I started by taking the bus to Lagunen from where I followed the roads up to Stendafjellet . Here I made a short revisit of the summit before returning to the gravel road and following it south and then north to Kandalskaret. Here I came across a trail marked with orange paint that led me almost all the way to summit of Barkehelleren , only requiring a minor detour. The summit could have provided decent views but these were largely ruined by the numerous overhanging powerlines. I therefore did not stay long before returning to the trail and heading north for a brief visit of Nubben, just in case it at some point is also added to the Alle topper i Bergen list. Nubben was however even less interesting than Barkehelleren. >>>

Klettane, again...

After our long hike to Storenova, Gulbrekkefjellet and Hisbotsnuken , Endre and I drove the short distance east to Kvamdalsvanet to take care of some unfinished business. It turned out that we at our previous visit of Klettane and not in fact visited the highest point, as this had since been moved from the western hill where the trig marker is located to a slightly higher hill around 150 meters to the east. As the day was darkening we therefore once more began the ascent up the tractor road to the wet area northeast of Klettane, but where we last time had proceeded off-trail to the summit, we now discovered a marked trail that greatly simplified the ascent. Partly due to the limited light we managed to lose the marked trail before reaching the summit but found it again towards the end.
