Trip Summary
We had heard about a new place for staying overnight in the middle of the wild nature of Algrøyna (at Ånesvika) and thus decided to go and have a look ourselves. :-) After first driving along road 555 towards Sotra in the west of Bergen, we turned towards south after passing through the tunnel in the south of Kolltveit, heading towards Fjell. There, we turned right, again, following road 559 into the direction of Møvik at the west-side of Sotra. Following this road further (eventually northwards along the coast), we came to Skålvik, where we turned left, again, and onto a narrow road leading us to Algrøyna (the road also connects to Langøyna and Lokøyna). Once on Algrøyna, and a little less than half way towards the main village on that island, we parked a bit up the hill, where there was ample space at one place on the right of the road. From there, we first walked back along the road (Nordre Øyavegen), until we saw a gate at the fence that extends parallel to the road there (on its western side). Using this gate, we easily got away from the street and into the terrain near Storevarden. Only shortly afterwards, we had "climbed" Storevarden (about 65 mosl!), enjoying some really nice views from "up" there! We then descended, mostly in western direction, to meet the main trail that comes south there in the east of Vågsvatnet. Following this trail for a short stretch, we made it to the west of Storevardstjørna, where we left the trail (in southern direction) to get up to Såtene. Once there, we continued across the heights in southwestern direction (mainly into the direction of Ramsvika). Before actually descending to Ramsvika, then, we first ascended to a little hill right in the east of Ramsvika, offering some nice views. Soon later, we had descended to Ramsvika, exploring this little bay for some moments. We then engaged with exploring the heights southwest of Hillefjellet (Idlefjellet), which are quite a bit wild, with cliffs and other challenges. Making it up from Ramsvika, first, already involved a little bit of climbing, and getting around on these heights, then, also involved quite a bit of back and forth. After enjoying some nice views towards the North Atlantic from Klovane, we then decided to head back and find an opportunity to descend into Ånesvika. In order to avoid unnecessary difficulties, we first headed north (over the heights) until we connected to the trail that leads down to Ånesvika. This way, it was easy and straight-forward to get down there and to inspect the new cabin of assocation Nullmeteroverhavet there (it's basically a wooden "box" with roof on poles, maybe big enough for three or four to sleep in there, with a locked door on the back-side and all of its front-side transparent, offering an excellent view over Ånesvika!). After this exploration of Ånesvika, we walked back (and along Illeidet) into northern direction. After almost crossing Illeidet to the bay on the other side, we first enjoyed a short break in a place without wind, before then ascending (quite steeply) back to Hillefjellet in the southeast. From Hillefjellet, we then followed the trail back into the direction of Storevarden. Once in the northwest of Storevarden (and in the east of Vågsvatnet), we left the main trail, again, and crossed over the heights there (mostly in eastern direction) to get back to Nordre Øyavegen and our car. All in all, Algrøyna again showed that it's a really nice place for hikes like this! :-)
