Cabin ruins: Ulriken, Vidden and Langelien

Another hike with the main goal of locating old cabin ruins, this time focusing on Ulriken, Vidden and Langelien. Plus a revisit of Fjeldglimt, or rather a first visit I should say, given that my previous visit had not been to the correct ruins. Having learnt my lesson the hard way, I was therefore well prepared and armed with the GPS position of each ruin gathered via close inspection of historical aerial photos via 1881.no. Here's an example showing Sangerhytten, Padden and Framheim in 1951. And here's Sangerhytten when it was still standing: Sangerhytten between 1900 and 1910.

All of the ruins were therefore easy to locate, with the exception of Fjeldglimt which was long gone even in 1951 and could only found by comparing against the old black and white photo available in Bergensernes Fjellverden II. Note that most of these areas are hardly visited anymore, hence there was a lot of off-trail hiking. However, the only section requiring light climbing was the shortcut from Nornenhytten d.y. (ruin) to Fjellheim (ruin), Vidden, and to some extent onwards to Huldrejenten (ruin), although for the latter I could easily follow what appeared to be an old trail.

Overall a very nice hike in areas I would probably otherwise not have visited, with the added bonus of being able to imagine what the same locations must have been like when the cabins where still in use.

    Litt av en tur, Harald! Utmerket dokumentasjon og flotte bilder. Nå har du gjort det lett for oss andre "hyttesamlere"! Er det i det hele tatt noe mere å lete etter i områdene du har fart over?

      Takk! Du gjør jo meget gode framskritt på dine kanter også!

      Nærmer seg full dekning av hytter/ruiner mellom Eidsvåg og Ulriken nå ja. Men det er fortsatt et par som gjenstår. For eksempel tok jeg ikke turen fra Grevbu ned til Urheim (og opp igjen) i går, da jeg så langt ikke klart å finne noen sikker lokasjon på denne.
