Kvitanosi from Gullbrå
Ever since the earlier attempt to reach Kvitanosi was abandoned only 500 meters from the summit, I had been waiting for another opportunity. And with a near perfect weather forecast for skiing, I managed to convince a colleague of mine to join.
Also this time the trip started from Gullbrå, but the light rain, wind and dense fog from the last visit was today replaced by blue skis and next to no wind. Quite cold when leaving Gullbrå (-11 degrees), but we quickly got warm when starting the steep climb and leaving the shade behind.
We were clearly not alone in thinking that this day was a good day for skiing to Kvitanosi, as there were fresh tracks by several skiers that we could follow on our way up the mountain, and with 10-15 centimeters of new snow, we were more than happy to follow in their tracks instead of having to make our own.
After the initial steep climb, the progress was relatively easy and within not too long we spotted the characteristic shape of Kvitanosi in the distance. Still a couple of kilometers to go, but these were quickly completed and we soon arrived at the summit to enjoy the excellent views. A bit of wind at the cairn, so we continued just beyond the summit where we found a nice sheltered location to have a quick lunch.
The climbing skins were then removed, and it was time for the long descent back to Gullbrå. The odd rock here and there that had to be avoided, but all in all the skiing conditions were excellent. Overall, an exceptional skiing trip on a close to perfect winter day!
