Trip Summary
We took the car to Valestrand on Osterøy and parked near a playing ground not far from where the ferry arrives/leaves. In order to get up to Eidefjellet, we traversed a "labyrinth" of small roads up the northwestern side of Valestrand. Soon we arrived near the top-most house and found the trail head right next to it. From there, the continuation was nice and easy to find, following the ridge up in northwestern direction. After crossing Kjeringfjellet, we continued along the ridge (in northwestern direction). Before the trail swings to the right, in order to connect with Iseggene, we left the main path for a short excursion to Brattfjellet. Without finding any path there, we quickly ended up in quite a bit of vegetation, requiring a bit of explorer spirit to continue. After a bit of a bush war, we reached the high ridge across Brattfjellet and enjoyed the view towards Sørfjorden. After a bit of further exploration (mostly between trees and without any path), we returned to the main trail and continued along it towards Iseggene. After first visiting Dalsnipa, we then continued to Iseggene. We then continued in northwestern direction, turning left at a marked location. This path brought us down to Tjørnmyra, where we also saw a very well maintained stone hut. Following the marked trail further, we came to a another junction, where a sign pointed upwards to Storfjellet. This was then the start of crossing Storafjellet (from the SE to the NW). At the northwestern end of Storafjellet, we descended steeply into Hammarskaret, where we crossed a little stream. Once on the other side of the water, we followed a tractor road "back" (in southeastern direction). Near Storemyra, we met another path, which was leading again in northwestern direction (and up to Sveivane). Once at Sveivane, we eventually found the main trail that would bring us all the way back, crossing over Eigelandsfjell (Fårikken). At Skorahaugane, we connected with a road and then followed it all the way back to Valestrand. In an ideal world, one could have wished to find a hiking path back to Valestrand (instead of following the road), but after all, also this solution was OK. In particular, since we were full with sunshine and pleasant spring impressions -- the whole day was unexpectedly warm and nice and hiking mostly along ridges, we really got a fair share of sun! :-)
