Today we tried a new path up Store Bentsjordtinden. Still really hot up here in Tromsø, ideally we could have started the hike earlier in the day, but as I worked late last night we started around 10am.

We followed a Ti på Topp sign up a steep path through the forrest to begin with. The path was really steep to begin with, but once we reached the end of the tree line, the terrain flattened out and we had a nice view behind us down to the fjord. Nice to be finished with some altitude. The flies were already out in full force as we followed red markers up the mountain. The trail disappears through the grass, but the red markers are easy enough to follow. Once we had climbed to 800moh, we had the top of the mountain in sight. The terrain then started to get a little more rocky but still pleasant to walk in, really wide and open. We walked up slightly to the right of the top of the mountain and once we reached the ridge, walked left along the ridge to the top. A few rocks to climb over on the very top, but a lovely 360 degree view to Tromsø, Kvaløya and out to Senja.

On the way back down we visited the top of Durmålstinden which is just to the right, then headed back down the way we came. Once we hit the forrest again we started back down the path through the trees, it quickly became really steep. I managed to loosen a large stone on the way down which went flying down to Inger Lise and only missed her by a few millimeters. We were really lucky thankfully, but its the first time

We arrived back at the car hot, sweaty and with a swarm of flies around us that had followed us almost the entire trip. I would definitely come here again, I'd like to try the trip in winter or with some new snow on the mountains because I think the view would be even better.

Takk for turen otto (Otto Lund) uglefisk (Paal Andre Lund) innerdal (Inger Lise Innerdal)

Good effort for enduring both the flies and the heat! You should go again to Bentsjordtinden in the autumn, the colours are amazing and depending how late you go, there might also be new snow. But it will probably take a bit longer time if the rocks are covered in loose snow - trust me, I've been there twice at that time of year... ;)
