Ascents Ben Tianavaig (413m) 10.05.2013

Fra Arngeir sin log:

From Portree, the capital of the island Skye on the Scottish west coast, drive approximately 2.9 km south on road A87. Turn left onto road B833 and drive 3.7 km. Turn left where signed for "Camustianvag" and drive 1.5 km, making sure you fork right after 500 metres. Find parking somewhere along the road.
Start your hike by following a path left of a gate, which in turn is left of a house. Follow this path north-east as far as it runs, and then bear right (east) towards Ben Tianavaig's south ridge. You will join a path along the ridge, which can be followed all the way to the summit.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.

10. May 2013
The plan for this Friday was to hike the Inaccessible Pinnacle and other Cuillin tops. But our guide had called the hike off the night before, because of forecasted rain and thunder. Given the nice Thursday evening we found this a little questioning, but a check on yr.no confirmed what he told us; it reported rain from 10am.
Based on the fact that it would turn grey from late morning I decided to go for a quick hike before breakfast, and to my surprise my friends Erling, Harald and HÃ¥vard all wanted to join. We therefore set out from Portree around 07:30, and had a very nice hike to Ben Tianavaig. Since we didn't have any route descriptions we simply parked where we spotted a doable route up to the summit, but during descent we followed the path along the south ridge as far as it ran, and then had a short section off-path before finding a path again in the lower section.
We were back at the car at 10:06, just as it started to rain, and quickly concluded that this would not be a day to mess around in the Cuillins. Instead we headed back to the hotel for some breakfast, and then sightseeing from inside a car.
