A visit of Storhaugen på Seløy had been on my wish list for a while, especially after it became the only peak left on the Tysnes ≥ 100m pf. list. But while the short ascent to the summit should be straightforward, the challenge was how to get to the island. Kjell had exhausted his connections in the area without any luck, so I asked a colleague of mine who used to live at Tysnes. It turned out that his daughter and son-in-law were living in Onarheim and it therefore did not take long before we had secured our boat ride to Seløy! Of course, only after initial questions such as: are you sure you mean Seløy?! and, why would anybody want to go there?! ;)

To make the most out of the trip, I also invited Petter and Endre and together with Kjell we found a time that worked for everybody. Petter travelled by himself earlier in the morning to visit the four other peaks he had left at Tysnes, while Kjell picked me up at Haukeland after work for the drive to Halhjem and we met up with Endre on the ferry to Våge. After the short drive to Onarheim we met up with my colleague's son-in-law Andreas at the harbor, got into the boat and headed for Seløy.

The boat ride took under 20 minutes and we quickly located a spot northwest of the summit where we could disembark. Andreas decided to join us for the hike as well, as even though he was a local he had (not surprisingly) never been to the top before either. After securing the boat, all of us therefore set out for the summit. The ascent was short and did not present any challenges except for several areas with thorny blackberry branches.

At the summit we could enjoy excellent views, especially in the direction of Folgefonna and Rosendalsalpene to the northeast. After a short break we descended more or less the same way, partly attempting to avoid the areas with blackberries but instead just finding new ones. All that remained was then the boat ride back to Onarheim, where we arrived with just enough time to catch the 20:30 ferry at Våge.

Takk for turen, Kjell, Petter og Endre! Og takk for båtskyssen, Andreas!
