Lykteneset at Flatneset

The clouds were hanging low and we decided to make an excursion along the coastline to Flatneset. We left Hamnveien near the bridge over Straumen, heading (for a few meters only) towards Straumsnes. After turning right (into Morrvika), we just continued a few hundred meters further until we parked at a small parking spot near the beach. To get over to Flatneset, we had to first cross over Lavollskjosen. We followed a simple trail over Skjåneshaugen to get to the southwestern side of Kjosen. Then, we walked along it (in southeastern direction) until we found a place, where we thought that crossing over should be possible (and indeed it was). Hellandsneset

We stopped for taking a look at the long closed Nickel mine west of Hamn i Senja. Difficult to imagine that hundreds of miners worked here for an extended period to break out nickel ore from this mine, which extends down to about 40 meteres below sea level (now all filled with water). From the mine, we then made a short walk out to the tip of Hellandsneset, enjoying some nice views (both towards Bergsøyan and also out towards the open North Atlantic). Bjørnaneset in Arboretet

With some mixed weather prediction and a few other duties to do on this Saturday, we decided to "just" explore Arboretet in Milde a little further. We parked at the parking lot in the northwest of Arboretet and started our walk along the main gravel road. Only a few meters into it, however, we decided that we rather were up for some exploration and deviated to the south, up Gravåsen. From there, we then connected to Søre Vasshaugen, before then heading in a more northern direction. Near Mørkevatnet, we crossed the gravel road and continued on the western side of this small lake. In the north of it, we then found a convenient way to get over to the other, northeastern side. Exploring Høvik

To get a bit of fresh air in the evening, we decided to explore Høvik in Eksingedalen. After first walking along the few roads in Høvik, we started a short ascent to Svedgjeli in northeasern direction (below Åsen), following a stretch of old Reitlevegen through Eksingedalen. From there, we then had some nice overview of Høvik. When walking back, we also explored the wide bend of the Ekso river (in the south of Høvik) that probably is responsible for the suffix of name Høvik. Kanadaskogen with Storhovden

One of many rounds through Kanadaskogen, starting along Gjeddevatnet, also including Fureneset, this time, and then continuing to Bjørndalsvatnet and further to Svartatjørna. Purkeneset from Eide

On a day with mixed weather, we made a short hike to Purkeneset north of Eide on Sotra. We parked near the road and crossed first Varden and Kyrkjehaugen before connecting to the trail that leads out to Purkeneset. From the top of Purkeneset we enjoyed some nice view across Kørelen, i.e., the rather big lake in the west of Hammarsland. After walking back along the same trail, we included a short excursion to Hopen in the north of Spilda. From there, we just walked back to Eide and called it a day.
