Trip Summary
On the map, we had started wondering whether it should not be alright to ascend to Hausdalshorgi from Hausdalen. With some over-optimistic hopes for some sun, we headed into Hausdalen and parked at the very end of the road, where we often would start to hike into Brekkedalen. The idea was to walk a short stretch further up Hausdalen, before then aiming at a ridge in the south of Hausdalshorgi with the name of Edne on it on the map. East of Langhaugen, where a stream comes down from Hausdalshorgi, we then left the main trail, which leads further into Hausdalen, seeing where it would be best to get up to the targeted ridge. After crossing the stream, we saw with some positive surprise that quite obviously this place was used to get higher up the hillside long before us, already (while no trail markers are to be found there, it's apparent that this site was used for getting up and down -- likely for a long time). While stepping up to Edne is steep, we found it very well possible, nonetheless. Not only did we find this ascent less adventurous than what we first had expected, so did we also enjoy numerous great views when turning around! A great "find"! :-) While stepping higher up, especially when getting above 500 masl, we encountered more snow than further down, which made the ascent a bit harder. Coming "out" on top almost right at the highest point on Hausdalshorgi, we then decided to quickly include a short visit to the main cairn a bit further west, before then turning around and heading into the direction of Austefjellet. Crossing over Horgahalsen (Bergens mini Besseggen?) was a nice experience with all the snow! After getting "back up" on the side of Austefjellet, we decided to leave the actual top of Austefjellet off our track and headed directly towards Redningshytten further north. After enjoying a short lunch there, we then headed into Hausdalen to get back down. On a day with more daylight, one clearly could also choose to go back via Toro and Hausdalsåsen. Instead, we "only" walked out Hausdalen to get back to our car before we became dark. Altogether a really nice hike and a nice find of an alternatige ascent route to Hausdalshorgi! :-)
