From Lyngholm to Ryvarden (16.11.2024)

Trip Summary

We left one car at the parking lot for Ryvarden in Mølstrevåg, while driving with the other one to Lyngholm a bit further north. There, we found a place, where we could leave the car for 20 NOK. There, we started our hike, following the well-marked North Sea Trail (Nordsjøløypa). Right in the beginning, the weather was a bit rough (strong wind, a bit of rain) -- a bit later, though, it improved and approaching Landsåt, we even got to imagine the sun for some moments! :-) The rather wild weather, however, made walking this trail an interesting experience. Especially the hail showers, which hit us with quite some force due to the strong wind, made sure that we experienced a special kind of presence. :-) Even though the first roughly three kilometers not really are right at the sea, one still gets to see quite a bit. The waters off the coast in the northwest are quite busy with many ships and they were working hard with the elements. The Sleipner tragedy, which happened just a few hundred meters off the coast of Såtelandet there (at Store Bloksen), also was present in a way during this hike (it also happened in November and also when there were strong winds in the region). Once closer to Ryvarden, when approaching Djupevika, the trail eventually gets close (very close) to the coast -- almost too close, given the weather on this Saturday! :-) After completing the trail at Ryvarden, we then used the gravel road to get back to the parking lot at Mølstrevåg. With all the weather, even this not so very long hike was clearly a strong impression that we will not forget in a while!
