Trip Summary
We started day 3 of this biking tour across the alps somewhere between Krakaudorf and Schöder. We first stopped in Schöder to refill some supplies, before then heading for the one bigger pass on this day, i.e., Sölkpass (1790mosl). After about two hours, we happily arrived at this pass, enjoying another great day on our bikes. On the other, northern side, then, we enjoyed a long and nice ride through the Sölk-valley until we arrived at Stein in the Enns-valley. In order to continue on our overall north-oriented route, we immediately left the Enns-valley, again, crossing Mitterberg to the Salza-valley. Coming up to the height of the dam, which holds a substantial amount of Salza-water back, we then followed along the artificial lake for a longer stretch. From nearby Bad Mitterndorf, we then continued in northwestern direction until we came to Äussere Kainisch. From there, instead of further following the Traun, we crossed over Gschlössl to get to Grundlsee (beautiful lake!). Then, we headed westwards and arrived in Bad Aussee, shortly after. From there, we cycled along the Koppentraun to reach Hallstatt after another hour, or so. Eventually, and even though there was "only" one major pass on this day, also this stretch of our biking tour across the alps was one of the longer ones.
