Grytehorga from Maurset to Liset

With the upcoming weekend looking very wet, I decided to use the last Friday of my summer holiday for an ascent of Grytehorga . After taking the train to Voss and the bus to Eidfjord I got off at Maurset, from where I started on the gravel road next to the ski lift which later turned into an unmarked trail. When reaching the top of the ski lift, the trail forked and I continued west on a marked, although quite wet, trail to Grytehorga. Both the trail markers and the peak itself would pretty much disappear before I got to the summit, with the latter resulting in a rather short stay before starting my descent via the trail heading north towards Isdalsvatnet. Englafjell

When a small window of nice weather finally appeared in an otherwise rather wet and gray period, it of course had to be taken full advantage off. I therefore bought a ticket on the boat to Rosendal to ascend Englafjell and left a rainy Bergen behind. After getting off the boat, I had a short stop in Rosendal where I made an attempt at a quick visit of Baroniet , but decided not to pay to enter as I only had a couple of minutes before the bus to Uskedalen. Here I easily located the trailhead and after a short walk along a tractor road and passing through two gates, I was ready to start the real ascent. The trail marked with red T’s was overall easy to follow, and although it was quite steep with only a couple short flatter stretches along the way, there were no difficult or exposed sections, nor was any scrambling >>>

Saueskardegga and Skorvane

Upon completing the hike to Høgerinden , we drove south to Kringletevatnet and found parking next to the road. First up was Saueskardegga , where we came across an animal track that led us up to the ridge, which could then easily be followed the rest of the way to the summit, making this the shortest and easiest ascent of the day. After returning to the car, we started the ascent to Skorvane . First by following a weak animal track into the valley between the 720.1 and 783.8 hills and then ascending off-trail up to the top of the 783.8 hill. Here we were surprised by the large drop between us and Skorvane. I blame it on the wet conditions making it difficult to interact with the digital map. Høgerinden

After the ascent of Blåfjellet and Blyfjellet , we drove the short distance to the end of the gravel along Stølsvatnet. Here we parked next to the dam and followed a marked trail north of the dam where there was a bridge across the currently almost dry riverbed. As soon as we crossed the bridge we lost the trail and did not find it again until spotting a small red gate just east of the dam. From there on there was a marked but quite weak trail that could be followed almost to summit, with only the final less than 300 meters being without a trail. After a couple of pictures of views that are probably much better under different conditions, we returned the same way, although this time taking a shortcut across the dam and skipping the detour via the bridge, which is probably the recommended route when the water level of Stølsvatnet >>>

Given the poor weather forecast, I initially did not have any hiking plans for the weekend, but when Petter called and asked if I wanted to go hiking I of course could not resist. We settled on Stordalen as a suitable target area where there were lots of seemingly easy summits that neither of us had visited. After the nearly two-hour drive from Bergen, we parked next to the road at Nystølen and were ready to start hiking shortly before ten. Our first target was Blåfjellet where the map indicated a trail to the summit. The actual trail however did not match the map! We therefore stupidly ignored the start of a marked trail, partly to avoid crossing a small stream, and instead continued along the road to the location indicated on the map. This resulted in a rather wet off-trail start to the ascent before later >>>
