Hodlekve and Kollsetestølen

Skiing the entire 10 km track at Hodlekve Skisenter on a rather gray day during an almost constant snow shower. We also made a short detour to the DNT cabin called Kollsetestølen , which today was even more hidden than usual underneath lots of snow.

Left work early to take advantage of the excellent afternoon weather forecast to go skiing. I started by taking the bus to Starefossen and walked up to Skomakerdiket. The skis came on just below Skomakerdiket and stayed on until the small dam north of Storevatnet. Perfect skiing conditions between Rundemanen and Blåmanen, except for a strong and cold wind from the north. Lysløypen was also quite good. Outside of those areas there was plenty of hard snow/ice with lots of footprints that made skiing slightly more difficult than usual.

The first skiing trip of 2022! After inspecting the weather forecast for the coming weekend it was very clear that if the recent snow at Fløyen was to be enjoyed at all before it would most likely disappear, it would have to be on the Friday. I therefore pushed all my planned work to the rainy weekend and instead headed for Fløyen via the bus to Starefossen (given that Fløibanen was currently getting an upgrade and not operational). The skis came on just below Skomakerdiket and stayed on until just above Munkebotsvatnet. Except for the last stretch, the skiing conditions were close to perfect! Too bad that most of the snow will probably all be gone after the next couple of rainy days...

We started from the top of Fløibanen and first followed "lysløypen" before heading up to Rundemanen . More snow than expected and overall very good conditions for skiing. Especially for mid-April. Surprisingly we could even ski all the way down to Munkebotsvatnet before the skis had to be carried.

A repeat of my earlier skiing trip to Brushytten and back, but this time together with Sigjoern (Sigbjørn Holm) and Marthine. Relatively cold evening with -9 at Brushytten. Excellent skiing conditions though, and the skis stayed on all the way until reaching the top of Øyjorden.

Yet another skiing trip at Fløyen, but this time starting by taking Fløibanen to avoid the icy ascent roads. Very few people at Fløibanen, maybe just over ten in total. Which was a bit strange given the close to perfect skiing conditions in "lysløypen"! The descent in the direction of Munkebotsvatnet was more challenging, with conditions varying from hard snow to packed ice. I still kept the skis on until close to the end of the steep descent below Vannverkshuset i Skiveien . Would probably have been possible to continue further, but walking was almost as fast and much safer. The snow chains did however not come on until getting to the start of Hellemyrstien (and was perhaps not even needed there either).

At around three in the afternoon I finally managed to leave the home office to enjoy the tail end of yet another beautiful winter day in Bergen. Started by carrying the skis up to the top of Øyjorden and then skied to the start of the gravel road up from Munkebotsvatnet. Here I carried the skis up to Grindarasten , from where the skis stayed on until returning to Øyjorden almost three hours later. From Brushytten I also made a quick visit to Blåmansveien utsiktspunkt for some spectacular views before starting the descent. The head lamp was not required until passing by Storediket.

The first skiing trip of 2021! After getting all of the meetings out of the way before lunch, I took the rest of the day off to enjoy the excellent winter weather. Decided on an unusual ascent route based on carrying the skis from Munkebotn via Skredderdalen. Worked out ok, but there are clearly easier options. The skis came on at the top of Skredderdalen and stayed on until arriving at the top of Øyjorden.

With all meetings suddenly cancelled due to the Coronavirus, I decided to instead make use of the perfect weather for a skiing trip in Steinskvanndalen, an area I had previously only visited in the summer. We parked at Løkjentunet, paid the 100 kr fee via Vipps, and from there walked a short stretch along the main road to Kvernavollen. After some initial struggles, we finally connected with the marked ski trail to Steinskvanndalen and could enjoy freshly laid ski tracks. We continued north to Øvre Kvanndalsvatnet (the last stretch without any tracks), before turning back and reconnecting with the marked ski trail, which we then followed for a roundtrip, finally taking us back to the main road. Again, we struggled to find the best route towards the main road, first making a detour in the wrong >>>

Given the excellent winter weather, which potentially would only last for one day, I decided to take the day off and go skiing at Fløyen. More snow than expected, and I could keep the skis on all the way to the top of Øyjorden (although for the stretch along Langevatnet there were some sections with almost no snow). The GPS decided to take a break in between Storediket and Munkebotsvatnet, i.e. I did not take the "shortcut" indicated on the map. :)
