Maglić

Date:
18.09.2012

We chose the direct approach from north, a fairly short climb which was ideal to test out Lars' performance after his severe stomach bug from the day before. It was a long and scenic drive from Vusanje in Montenegro, via Serbia and into Bosnia. Eventually we found the small road from Tjentiste in Bosnia that winds 15 km up the hills to the trailhead of Maglic. This road is even doable by a normal car if you take it nicely, but don't forget to bring a spare tyre kit in case of puncture (a high risk that this will happen!). The trailhead is located at a small pass (elevation 1650m), and there was plenty of space to park our car. Read the rest of my trip report on Distantpeak.com , including GPS track and photos.

Weird GPS readings on the summit of Zla Kolata

Date:

After a successful hike to Deravica in Kosovo, we spent the night at Lake Plav in Montenegro. Early in the morning we drove the short stretch to Vusanje, where we parked our car at an abandoned army barrack (elevation 1010 meters). It was cloudy weather and we were really not looking forward to yet another rainy hike. Even more worrying, Lars had got infected by a stomach bug and he felt like crap this morning. But it would take substantial more than that to stop us. Read the rest of my trip report on Distantpeak.com , including GPS track and photos.

Shooting and possibly land mines on Đeravica

From Tetovo in Macedonia we drove across the border to Kosovo. At the border we had to buy an extra car insurance (30 Euro). This insurance is mandatory but we have no idea how much it covers, if anything at all, in case of accident or damage. Our rental car company had explicitly excluded this war-torn country from the rental agreement, so we were certainly aware of the risk. In case we were unlucky (accident or theft), we would probably be in deep shit. Hopefully the Kosovo car insurance would then pick up part of the bill. Driving around in Kosovo with Croatian plates should not pose any problems though, unlike cars with Serbian plates, which certainly would be vandalised after short time in Kosovo. Well across the border we stopped for a while in the lovely historic city of Prizren. There >>>

Mount Korab i ufyselig ver
