Cycling: Hikletten

When summer made a surprise return in late September, I decided to have a go at my ambitious plan of using the bike as my transportation for a visit to Hikletten on Osterøy. I therefore got up early Sunday morning and began the long bike ride towards Botnen just as the sun was starting to rise. Thankfully a relatively cold morning soon turned significantly warmer, and even though my legs were still tired from yesterday's hike, progress was initially good. Bruvik was reached without any difficulties and it was now time for the main challenge of the day, i.e. the long climb up to Båtaleitet . By now my legs had started to complain slightly, I therefore mixed in short stretches of walking next to the bike for a bit of variation. Another short bike trip along Barsnesfjorden, but this time it started raining on the return. Note that the road this hike follows is private, i.e. no cars allowed. There are however a couple of parking spaces down by the small wharf along Barsnesfjorden just before the road turns west and starts climbing slightly towards the crossroads at Barsnes.

Partial trial run to test the feasibility of using the bike as the means of transportation for a visit of Hikletten . Should be doable, but will be a very long trip (more than 120 km for the cycling alone...). However, this test did not include the 400 meters ascent from Bruvik to the parking lot at Båtaleitet , which will clearly be the hardest part. Note: The strange zero meters above sea level in the middle of the profile is actually the crossing of Osterøybroen, which is not picked up when correcting the GPS elevation values.

After initially dropping out of the Bergen ≥ 50m pf. og ≥ 100 m.o.h. list , due to having to re-complete it several times when new rather uninteresting peaks were added, I decided to rejoin after realizing that the latest addition to the list, Råvarden , could be easily reached by bike, thus making for an overall more enjoyable trip. Had to get off the bike for the final 60 meters walk to the summit, which today provided even less views than usual due to the low-hanging clouds. Another one of those "been there, done that" peaks that I'm pretty sure I will not feel the need to revisit.
