Cycling: Malkenes - Skorpo - Våge - Lønborg

Another ambitious cycling trip to Tysnes, this time with the goal of visiting Kongshaug and Hovda . I repeated the success of my previous trip and thus took the express ferry to Malkenes instead of starting by cycling the 40 km to Halhjem. From Malkenes I cycled to Skorpo, once again enjoying the excellent views along Onarheimsfjorden. The trailhead for Kongshaug at Stykkenestet was easily located, and after a visit to Kongshaug (see the separate trip report here: Kongshaug ), I returned to Onarheim for a well-deserved ice cream before starting the climb up Fjellvegen towards Hovda. After the visit to Hovda (see the separate trip report here: Hovda ), I was happy to see that I had plenty of time to get to the planned ferry at Våge, where I arrived with around 15 minutes to spare. On yet another day of excellent warm summer weather, I decided to take the day off and carry out the second of my ambitious cycling/hiking trips to Tysnes. This time avoiding the initial 40 km bike ride to Halhjem by instead taking the express ferry from the Bergen city center to Malkenes, as this would allow me to spend more time hiking. Upon arriving at Malkenes, I followed the now partially familiar roads to Skaret p-plass , where I left the bike behind for an excellent hike to Hovlandsnuten and Etlådnefjellet . When coming back down to Skaret, I did not waste any time and quickly continued south to Onarheim, basically all downhill and flat, and with some spectacular views along the way. Cycling: Hauglandsdalen, Bontveit and Totland

Cycling trip to visit a couple more cabins from Bergensernes Fjellverden II (BF II). Started by cycling to Kalandseidet and then following the scenic road up Hauglandsdalen. After the steep climb up to Bontveit, I could follow a gravel road all the way to Domus Medica and Hjelpekorpshytten . Both have most likely seen better days, and the nice views indicated in BF II are now completely hidden by trees. Note that Hjelpekorpshytten can be rented. Back at the main road, I left it almost immediately to start on another gravel road that would take me all the way to Riple. I soon passed by Tollhaug and, with a minor detour, Fjellro . Cabins that are also mentioned in BF II, but not added to the BF II list as they are now privately owned. Ever since exhausting the hiking options from Våge as a starting point for my hikes at Tysnes, I had played with the idea of arriving at Våge by bike, thus opening up new possibilities. The only problem was that this would involve first having cycled the 40 km to the ferry at Halhjem, and just as important, having to cycle the 40 km back home from Halhjem at the end of the trip. But after my recent test run to Halhjem , I concluded that, while it would definitely be a long trip, it should be possible. Having done the test run turned out to be very useful given that my start from Lønborg was slightly delayed, resulting in arriving at Halhjem just as the ferry was docking, and with less than ten minutes until departure. Trial run to check the feasibility of cycling to Halhjem instead of taking the bus, with the goal being to use the bike to reach new peaks when hiking at Tysnes. At Halhjem I was almost tempted by the ferry to Våge arriving just as I was starting my journey home, but there was realistically no time for going to Tysnes today. And in the end the trip home was tough enough on its own. Overall, a very nice bike ride with excellent views along the way, and where almost all of the time was spent on walking/cycling paths or on roads with very limited traffic.
