Cycling: Kalandsvatnet, Tereleitet, Bjørnåsen and Hamresåta
- Date:

- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 5:49h
- Distance:
- 64.7km
Another cycling trip around Kalandsvatnet, this time to visit two new minor summits recently added to the Alle topper i Bergen list , namely Bjørnåsen and Hamresåta . Thanks to the recent trip report from knutsverre (Knut S. Andersen) , both Bjørnåsen and Hamresåta were now straightforward to get to via trails, and I pretty much followed in the footsteps of Knut Sverre and Astrid.
Note that while the trail for Bjørnåsen is marked, I still almost missed the trailhead, as the trail itself was pretty weak. But if you start looking to the right just before the trail reaches Ulvvatnet/Svartavatnet you should able to locate the first trail marker. I left the bike at the trailhead and followed a trail that was, at least at the moment, quite hidden by ferns and tall grasses, but it could still be followed without much difficulty and made it straightforward to reach the summit which, as >>>
Cycling: Hauglandsdalen and Solbakkefjellet

Sunday cycling trip with the objective of visiting Solbakkefjellet NØ , a recently added minor peak that I had passed close by before but not actually visited. My initial plan had been to cycle via Hauglandsdalen and ascend from Frotveit, but this route was blocked, twice, by a field of grazing horses. I could probably have made my way to the northern trailhead anyway, but I decided to instead head to the alternative trailhead further south.
This turned out to be mistake as the gravel roads on the west side of Solbakkefjellet are clearly better suited for horseback riding than cycling, resulting in anything but a comfortable ride. But I finally left the bike behind north of the alternative trailhead and from there continued on foot to the large cairn at Solbakkefjellet, enjoying the excellent views along the way. Just before >>>

Cycling: Dalavatnet and Anestølen
- Date:
- 30.07.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - road
- Duration:
- 2:34h
- Distance:
- 23.1km
Cycling trip along Dalavatnet starting from Hollekvebrui p-lomme and going all the way to Anestølen before returning. Most of the trip was on a paved road with very little traffic before a gravel road took over for the last stretch in to Anestølen. Overall the paved road was of good quality, however one should pay attention as there are areas where frost heaving has damaged the pavement. I of course managed to hit one of these tiny holes at a time when I was paying more attention to the views than the road, and in some strange way managed to tumble over the handle bars of my bike and hitting the asphalt. Luckily my speed was very low and I got way with only minor bruises and could continue cycling, but now paying at least slightly more attention to the road. In summary, an excellent trip with spectacular views along the >>>
Cycling: Siggjo, Furefjellet and Vardafjell
- Date:
- 21.07.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - road
- Duration:
- 7:18h
- Distance:
- 42.5km
I started by cycling to Strandkaiterminalen, from where I took the high-speed ferry to Rubbestadneset. Here I started the GPS tracking and headed south along the roads to the trailhead for Siggjo , generally on either separate cycling/walking paths or on roads with limited traffic. It should however be mentioned that while the area was overall well-suited for cycling, the signs for cyclists leave a lot to be desired, as basically there were none. I therefore struggled a bit when getting to the highway south of Rubbestadneset and trying to figure out how where the cycling path continued.
After reaching the valley between Siggjo and Furefjellet called Åreiddalen, I easily located the unmarked trailhead for Siggjo and continued from there on foot. See the separate trip report here . Upon returning to my bike, I cycled >>>
Cycling: Myrdalsvatnet and Preståsen
- Date:
- 18.07.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 3:10h
- Distance:
- 43.4km
When the rain showers finally stopped, or so I thought, I cycled towards Myrdalsvatnet for a visit of Preståsen . It however started raining again as I was approaching Nesttun, but thankfully it was only light rain and soon stopped completely. The summit of Preståsen was easily reached on foot via an unmarked trail starting from the gravel road northeast of Myrdalsvatnet. Next to no views from the summit nor the trail though. I even briefly followed the trail south beyond the summit to check if there were any better views there, but this was not the case as far as I could tell. I therefore returned to my bike at the gravel road and followed it north before returning south to Myrdalsvatnet and the ride home.
Cycling: Kvernafossen
- Date:
- 14.07.2021

- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 4:19h
- Distance:
- 54.9km
Cycling trip with the objective of exploring a possible trail to Nedstaheia, a small hill southeast of Haukheia in Arna. The unmarked trailhead south of the summit was easily located, and after leaving my bike behind, I continued on foot along the river/waterfall called Kvernafossen . The trail was partially hidden by the low vegetation, but easy to follow. Shortly I reached the tractor road south of Krokavatnet. Here I turned right and started searching for the trail to Nedstaheia. I think I found it in the end, but it was pretty much completely hidden by the tall grasses. After a short attempt at following the hidden trail, I therefore gave up and decided to rather return on a future hike, ideally not wearing shorts as today, especially given that I was also planning on including a visit to Haukheia. Cycling: Herdla from Kleppestø
- Date:

- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 8:11h
- Distance:
- 97.5km
An extended cycling trip with the main objective of exploring Herdla. I started by cycling to Strandkaien and from there taking the high-speed ferry to Kleppestø. Here I turned on the GPS tracking and headed north towards Herdla, via the road to Erdal and Ask, thus avoiding the heavier traffic on the main road via Ravnanger. The road itself was also a positive surprise, as due to recent road work, I could stay off the road almost all the way to Ask, and instead use the wide sidewalk/walking and cycling path next to the road.
However, from Ask until connecting with the main road at Åsebø, there were no sidewalks, but also very limited traffic, hence this was not an issue at all. The traffic greatly increased as I turned north at Åsebø though, but when approaching Fauskanger the sidewalk/walking >>>
