Veten i Åsane
- Date:
- 22.09.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hike
- Duration:
- 3:45h
- Distance:
- 9.5km
Since time was limited, we chose a hike not too far from Bergen and not long a hike, neither. Since we had talked about Veten (Veten i Åsane), we decided that we would hike it, once again. To add a bit of variation, however, we chose to approach it from the north, this time. We thus took the car from Bergen via Åsane along the E39 (into the direction of Knarvik). Before approaching the bridge, north of Åsane, however, we turned right onto road 5346 that leads to Steinstø. Shortly after, we turned left again and onto a narrow road that brings one to Hordvik. There, near Hordvik kindergarden, we parked and started our hike (in southern direction). We first followed a small road, right next to a little stream that comes down from Veten (on its eastern side), until we crossed E39 by >>>
Brøknipa from Skaftå
- Date:
- 21.09.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hike
- Duration:
- 6:15h
- Distance:
- 15.7km
We took the car from Bergen to Osterøy (first along E16, then across the bridge). Right after crossing the bridge, we turned right (into the direction of Bruvik). Following Bruvikvegen, we soon after arrived at Skaftå, where we parked next to the road. We then walked a few meters in order to get started with our hike up to Brøknipa. When checking the information board at the beginning of the hike (right next to Bruvikvegen), we detected a dotted line that suggested that one could hike up directly to Utegardsnipa (instead of first going along Skaftådalen to Stølane before then turning back and up to the ridge that leads to Utegardsnipa). We thus adapted our plans to try out this route. We started "the usual way" (towards Skaftådalen), but at about 100mosl we found a little >>>
Gråsida from Gjelle to Hornaberg
- Date:
- 08.09.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hike
- Duration:
- 6:45h
- Distance:
- 19.6km
Expecting nice September weather, we planned for a slightly longer hike, crossing Gråsida near Voss from one side to the other. In order to arrange for this, we agreed to coordinate this hike with friends, who would do the same hike, but in the other direction. The idea was to then exchange car keys at the meeting point so that each party could pick up a car at the end of the hike and drive back to Bergen. Our direction meant to start at Gjelle (south of Vossavangen) and to cross Gråsida towards Hornaberget in Bergsdalen. According to the plan, our friends started at Hornaberget and aimed for Gjelle, where we had parked our car (we had first taken road #5394 from Vossavangen towards Gjernes, before then driving up Giljavegen until we parked at about 285mosl, where a gravel road starts >>>
Fanafjellet from Rød
- Date:
- 07.09.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 5.8km
We had a bit of time and thinking, that even a small hike nearby could be nice, we headed for Fana and Fanafjellet (south of Bergen). At Fana, we then turned right and followed road #546 (in the direction to Krokeide, where the ferry to Austevoll leaves). The plan was to start from Rød and to find a trail up to Fanafjellet that four years earlier was the end of another hike near Krokeide . We thus parked near Rødshella and walked towards the place, where we assumed that the trail would come down. Passing by house #424 instead of house #422, we missed this trail-head by a few meters. Following some minor path through the forest, then, and following the rather step mountain-side there in southern direction, we ended up in the west of Rødsaksla instead. At about 80mosl, we first enjoyed a nice view over Fanafjorden, >>>
Drangsfjellet with Høgelikampen
- Date:
- 31.08.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 6.6km
We left Bergen towards the south, passing by Fana and driving over Fanafjellet (road #5158). Near Sørstraumen, where road #5156 leaves to the left (in eastern direction), leading to Lyseklosteret before continuing towards Ulven, we turned right, following along the coast of Seiasundet. South of Søvik, where the road leads away from the sea, we then took a sharp turn to the right (towards Drange). Before getting to Drange (and just before getting to Langavatnet), we parked the car right next to the road. Instead of starting our hike into the forest from there, however, we first followed the road a bit further (to Indre Drange, actually). There, we found a good place to leave the road and start our first ascent (up to Fjærhovda). While it was not difficult to find our way up there, one >>>
Brøknipa from Båtaleitet parking
- Date:
- 19.07.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 5.3km
We started from Båtaleitet parking, quite a bit above Bruvik on Osterøy (to the right, right after crossing the bridge). Following the easy-to-find trail, we soon arrived at the top of Brøknipa (Bruviknipa), enjoying some very nice views over Sørfjorden from up there (it's always wonderful to stand on top of Brøknipa -- very much recommended!). After spending a bit of time on the top, we then returned back down on the same trail that we had taken up. A nice (not too long) hike with great views! :-)

Gløvrebu in Øygarden
- Date:
- 14.07.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hike
- Duration:
- 1:30h
- Distance:
- 2.6km
Driving from Bergen to Sotra, we turned north after Kolltveittunnelen, continuing on road 561 towards Øygarden. Driving almost all the way out (to Hellesøy), we came to Seløyna. While the road is getting really narrow there, one cannot overlook Hjelme Kyrkje, when passing by. Only meters later, right next to the rather big graveyard, we parked the car and started to follow a nice trail into the direction of Stakksvika. Close to the sea, the trail splits with the southern route being a bit more direct to Gløvrebu. Still, the slightly longer route (towards Stakksvika first) is very nice, offering views to and beyond Bobbeskjeret. From there, it's then towards the south and to Gløvrebu. While the whole area there is nice to see, the main sight is a major cut through the rock near the >>>
Skogsøyna on a nice summer Sunday!
- Date:
- 14.07.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hike
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 5.5km
Since we were in Øygarden already, we decided to also pay a visit to Skogsøyna, which always is worth a little hike! To get there, we found road 228 towards Herdleværet. On Skogsøyna, just before crossing the bridge to Herdleværet, we parked the car and started to hike towards the west, following the northern rim of Skogsøyna. We were again positively impressed about work that was done recently to further improve this trail, making it easier to avoid wet and/or muddy shoes. Nice! :-) At the outer tip of Skogsøyna, we reached our goal for this day, Skoysøytua (some 50m above sea level and with nice views over the open Atlantic!). We explored the cliffs and watched the energetic ocean rumble against the rocks of Skogsøytua. We also rounded the cliffs in order to get further down >>>
Hjortåsen on Strøno
- Date:
- 07.07.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 2:00h
- Distance:
- 4.4km
We took the car to the south of Bergen, driving then road 160 from Ulven to Strøno. After crossing the narrow bridge to Strøno and driving up just a little to the T-junction, where the streets to Nordstrøno/Sørstrøno split, we turned right (towards Nordstrøno). Only a couple of meters before getting close to the first houses on the north-side of the island, we stopped next to the road and started hiking, following a simple forest road that starts from the street there in southwestern direction. At about 80mosl, where the forest road ends, we then continued on a well-visible path (further up in southern direction). At about 140mosl, we spotted Såta nearby (in northeastern direction) and thought that we may have a nice view from up there. It took only a few minutes to get over (no >>>
Gulltjørna via Trengereidhotten from Risnes
- Date:
- 29.06.2019
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 5:45h
- Distance:
- 8.3km
We left Bergen in eastern direction on E16 (into the direction of Voss), leaving the main road just before Romslo, changing to the old road that brings one through Romslo to Risnes. We found a suitable place to park in Risnes and started our hike from there.
Our first goal was Krånuken, to get up onto the heights north of Gullfjellet. For years, already, I had looked at this idea of ascending Trengereidhotten from the north, but hesitated (now I know that this was for good reasons!). This time, we finally decided to give it an attempt. We chose Sverinden, leading up to Krånuken, as the line and started from the street, where it passes under a short tunnel at the northern end of Sverinden. Immediately, our expectations were confirmed: the ascent over the ridge of Sverinden is very steep, >>>
