Algrøyna, Smalaneset

Date:
03.09.2016
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
2:30h
Distance:
4.5km

We drove westwards from Bergen towards the outer islands and stopped at Algrøyna (basically at the very last bus stop, there). From there, we continued into western direction, looking into Nøtevika, first. We then crossed over to the relatively large peninsula of Algrøyna, which lies between Breivika in the north and Kungvika in the south. We followed a well-marked path westwards as soon as we had reached this peninsula, following the northern coastline. Relatively quickly, we proceeded towards the outermost tip of this peninsula, Smalaneset, enjoying many great views already on the way out there. After a short rest, we returned---this time following the southern shore, along Kungvika. Back to the street (Kungvikvegen), we did not have long to go, before we were back to the car. It's >>>

Langtrotten on Algrøyna---wild! :-)

Date:
30.07.2016
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
4:00h
Distance:
6.8km

We parked near the bus stop Urhaugen (almost the last one on Algrøyna) and walked from there, first continuing on the road (Nordre Øyavegen, then Kongvikvegen). Near house #51 along Kongvikvegen, one leaves the road and descends down towards the eastern end of Kungvika. There, following one of the paths, we crossed over to the other, southern side that connects to Barmaneset, i.e., the middle of the three "fingers" of Algrøyna. Following the path, we walked westwards, between Urhaugen and Måshaugane, and continuing across Nordra Mynteidet further west and onto Barmaneset. The path leads to the innermost bay of Krabbakeila, where it isn't 100% obvious of how to continue further towards Langtrotten (one has to turn left, basically, walk down, across, and up again, and sneek >>>

Evening hike on Algrøyna

Date:
23.06.2016
Characteristic:
Hike
Duration:
3:00h
Distance:
5.6km

We drove to Algrøyna (out on Sotra) and parked along Vestavegen. From there, we walked a little along the small roads, following Kongvikvegen---basically straight to the west. Near Kongvikvegen 51 (on the left side of the road), we descended towards a path that leads around this building and then southwards towards Kungvika. There, we crossed over to the south of Kungvika, in order to walk out towards Barmaneset. Following the path, we quickly reached the western end of this peninsula, called Langtrotten. There, we had a nice break, before returning. On the way back, we chose a different path, walking along Storavatnet (in the north of it). Walking this way, one ends up in a narrow valley that connects to Storvegen. From there, it's just a few steps back to Vestavegen. Selected photos >>>

Liatårnet

Date:
13.05.2016
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
2:00h
Distance:
5.1km

We parked on the western side of Liatårnet, a few kilometers south of Fjell, where one is also informed about nearby Fjellfestningen. From there, one first follows a paved forrest road towards Liatårnet, passing by Bålesteinen, then turning right. The trail to Liatårnet leave the paved road (to the right) near a shooting arena and right next to a simple building. Then the path leads (more or less) straight up to Liatårnet (easy to find). It was a nice evening, but quite a bit windy (especially on the top)! To get back, we continued from Liatårnet southwards, descending steeply into a wet area about 100 height meters below Liatårnet. In order to get back to the paved road (further down and to the northwest from this place), one needs to look very carefully for a trail (if there >>>

Indrafjellet from Liaskjæret

Date:
09.04.2016
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
3:30h
Distance:
8.2km

We drove from Bergen to Sotra, turning left before entering the tunnel and driving south to Liaskjæret on the eastside of the island. We parked near Liaskjervegen 182, i.e., very close to the point at the street, where the bus turns around. We followed the street southwards, basically to its end---very near to a small harbor for private boats. We went around the last houses and came soon to a small bay (called Nordra Skagavika). From there, we followed a very simple path that leads up to a small lake (Røssevikvatnet). We continued on the western side of this small lake, approaching Hansafjellet. It's straight-forward to hike there, even though we could not see any paths (occasionally, it's wet, yes). It was good to change over to Hansafjellet on its northern end---ascending to this >>>

Alteret

Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
1:45h
Distance:
3.5km

We parked in Haganes, almost at sea level, and near this little park, which they have set up close to the sea. Actually, before starting our hike, we first inspected this little park, which is there in Haganes kind of unexpected! :-) We then walked along the sea for a few meters (on the eastern side of the bay, vis-a-vis Notaneset), before we connected to another small road, serving a number of new houses there. Behind the houses on the eastern side of this road, we eventually found a narrow path, leading in southeastern direction (as we had planned). We managed to get around and up the first cliff, following this simple path, and crossed over, then, along a comparably wet path, to the next cliff. Climbing a few steps up and around, we ended up at the other side to this small cliff and >>>

Golta

Date:
03.01.2016
Characteristic:
Hike
Duration:
2:30h
Distance:
4.1km

We drove to Sotra and then southwards into the direction Klokkarvik. At Eide, we turned right, into the direction of Glesvær. Relatively near to Glesvær, we turned right, again---this time into the direction of Golta. We drove over the bridge to Golta and parked the car along the road, a short bit before reaching Nedre/Øvre Golta. We weren't 100% sure were "the path to Sandvika" would leave the road and searched for a short while, before we decided to follow something that looked in the beginning like a track (maybe sheep!). We passed through a couple of trees, before finding a suitable spot to cross a simple fence. We then followed a "height ridge" towards northwest, right next to a significant depression, called Trolldalen. Halfway out, we came to another fence---this >>>

Liatårnet and Høgafjellet

Date:
15.11.2015
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
2:45h
Distance:
8.4km

We parked south of Fjell, where a road departs, leading to Fjell Festning. We followed this road for a bit, before we continued towards Liatårnet (to the right). Someone has put significant efforts into putting signs up and marking the path, so it's really straight forward now to find the path up Liatårnet. :-) From Liatårnet, we enjoyed nice views in all directions, before we continued southwards towards Høgafjellet. After the first descent, we probably followed an older path, before we connected back to the blue-marked path towards Høgafjellet. The path from Liatårnet to Haganes, via Høgafjellet, is really very nice with great views and rough, wild romantic impressions. Before walking out towards the road near Haganes, we descended to a half-high level. We were wondering, whether >>>

Barmaneset on Algrøyna

Date:
14.08.2015
Characteristic:
Hike
Duration:
2:30h
Distance:
7.0km

We parked on Nordre Øyavegen, right before getting close to the few houses on northern Algrøyna. From there, we first followed the road further (and down and upwards, again), before continuing on Kongvikvegen (to the west). After maybe 200m, a barn is on the left side with some signs that hiking tracks are leaving the road from there (down between the road and the barn through a narrow passage). Once this entry point is found, the rest of the tour is quite straight forward (or more in a round, actually). We walked out Barmaneset to the west, approaching Rognkallen and Langtrotten at the end of this peninsula (and Kungvika on our right). Once we came close to Krabbakeila, right between Rognkallen and Langtrotten, where the ocean waters get wild, even on a very calm day, we first approached >>>
