Liatårnet

Date:
18.10.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
1:30h
Distance:
5.8km

Evening walk, almost in the dark, and in the middle of windy clouds (but with less rain than expected!) -- it's always nice to walk up and down Pyttane, especially, if there's limited time! :-) Web page WestCoastPeaks.com provides useful information about Liatårnet and also Petter Bjørstad has a useful page about Liatårnet .

Hike around Baugtveit with Høgstefjellet

Date:
12.10.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
3:00h
Distance:
8.9km

We started from the parking place in Baugtveit (to right, right after driving up the steep road towards Baugtveit) and walked first along Huseberget and up towards Baugtveitgotene, then around Midtfjellet, and up to Høgstefjellet. From the beginning, this was a very wet hike -- and slippery in some places (due to the recent rain). We then continued northwards, via Baugtveitstemma up to Tellevikafjellet. From there, we went down to Salhusskaret and up, again, to Nordgardsfjellet. From there we continued on the path and down to Hitland (lowest point), before we walked to road up, again, to get back to the car. All in all, it was fun to make this hike (several tops and still well doable without being too straining). :-) Selected photos are available as Google photo album . Via Gråfjellet towards Sveningen

Date:
05.10.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
6:30h
Distance:
18.1km

We parked the car in Løyningdalen, right next to the street into Øvredalen. We then crossed the river (bridge) and continued into Stordalen. Following Stordalen, we passed by Gråfjellet and climbed up to Midtfjellet first. From there, we changed over to Gråfjellet, going a bit back in direction. From Gråfjellet, we then descended to Leina and followed the ridge in direction Baggeskaret. Most of this is without any path and you better have a bit of an adventure-spirit to try this connection. From there we continued along the ridge, first via Selsfjellet and then to Utløfjellet, before we started a quite steep ascent towards Sveningen. Basically, most of this tour was along the border between Os and Samnanger. See the image for the part of the trip which was (too?) steep. Maybe, >>>

Skogsøy in stormy weather

Date:
04.10.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
3:00h
Distance:
5.5km

With the weather being quite stormy, this was an exciting tour to Skogsøy! :-) It's one of the view places, which I know and appreciate, where you get close to the open north sea, here in the vicinity of Bergen -- a place to return to again and again! Vidden from Langedalen

Date:
21.09.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
3:30h
Distance:
10.9km

Starting in Langedalen (between Espeland and Rødland), we first followed the road northwards to Borgo, where we left the road to go up to Borgaskaret. We happened to end up on the path up Kvitnosa, which we followed until we reached Borgavatnet. From there, we connected upwards to Vardegga. Going "back" on Vidden, via Borgaskaret and via Storfjellet, we did not really find the shortest path towards Hauggjelsvarden, but went first to Turnerhytten, from where we turned (again) back towards Hauggjelsvarden (via Byfjellenes høyeste punkt). From Hauggjelsvarden, we descended (without a path) to Langedalen (not really a recommended way of getting back). Vardafjellet/Orretuva

Date:
14.09.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
2:30h
Distance:
8.7km

Quick Sunday afternoon round, including Vardafjellet and Orretuva, starting from Fjellbirkeland, following first a gravel road towards south-east into Tjørnadalen, before turning back upwards (to the north-east) towards Vardafjellet first, then Orretuva. Afterwards, down to Stignavatnet and along it, before back up to the gravel road. All in all, the hike was moderately boring with only short parts (for ex., along Stignavatnet) through quite romantic nature. Web page WestCoastPeaks.com provides useful information about Orretuva and Vardafjellet and also Petter Bjørstad has a useful page about Vardafjellet (Orretuva) .

Torneberget

Date:
13.09.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
1:30h
Distance:
4.4km

While my son played some soccer at Slåtthaug, I made a quick ascent to nearby Torneberget -- it's a not-at-all-prominent peak in front of Smøråsfjellet, towards Bergen, with selected views northwards over Bergen. Descending towards Slåtthaug, without any path through the woods, was a little bit challenging, because descending finally towards the houses of Smøråsflaten proved to be very steep (just a few meters, bust still).

Solbakkafjellet

Date:
07.09.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
4:00h
Distance:
12.2km

Easy afternoon hike with some nice views! Starting from Bjøllehaugane, first in direction south-east, before entering the ridge up to Solbakkafjellet, it's easy to find (if you take the right turns -- a few paths lead other ways!). On the top, which is stretched out quite a bit, a few nice views over Bergen and nearby mountains (Sveningen, Hausdalshorgi, Sydpolen, etc.) are possible. Down, we first continued towards Frotveitvatnet, before turning left and back (in parallel, south-east to the "main road" into Bontveit). The last stretch -- from Lonsmoget to Almeland -- we made through a pretty magical forest! :-) Web page WestCoastPeaks.com provides useful information about Solbakkafjellet and also Petter Bjørstad has a useful page about Solbakkafjellet .

Raudlifjellet

16.08.2014
Characteristic:
Hillwalk
Duration:
3:00h
Distance:
8.8km

Nice small tour up Raudlifjellet (via Nordhordlandskulten) from Tømmernes -- the path is not easy to find at once, but once one has found it (also not difficult), it's nice and easy to the top(s). Some nice views towards Kalandsvatnet and towards Os. Grindaflethytta

Date:
23.07.2014
Characteristic:
Hike
Duration:
15:00h
Distance:
43.7km

Two days tour from Ljosanbotn (arrival with the train from Bergen) -- first day to Grindflethytta (via a really well marked trail, including three summer bridges); then, next day, first along the marked trail towards Fyre (up to the pass near Stangahøgdi, where the trail starts to descend into Øvsthusdalen), before then following the ridge up to Kaldanuten (no trail along this part) and then down (via Bjørndalsvatnet) into Bjørndalen and out to Brandset. An intense hike, alltogether: about 42km and about 15h out in the beautiful nature. Selected photos are available as Google photo album .
