My initial plan to visit the highest point of Myrdalsbreen was abandoned at the small hill called Britastein just west of Britabu due to the snow conditions being tougher than expected and the snow starting to build up underneath my climbing skins.

When picking up my niece arriving by boat at Leikanger, there was just enough time to first make a quick visit of Orrabu . We started from the parking lot at Kleppa and from there followed the marked trail all the way to the cabin. The plan had been to return via Høgehaug , but this had to be dropped in order to get to Leikanger before the boat arrived.

Followed the ski trail from Rindabotn via Høgehaug around Fjærlandssetvatnet with an off-trail shortcut for the descent. The trip also included a visit to the traditional Easter barbecue at the Red Cross cabin Britabu .

On what would turn out to be a perfect day for hiking, me and my niece started the day by taking the first bus from Sogndal to Hella, where we planned to get off at the stopped called "Hella indre". But for some reason the bus driver did not stop (even though we pressed the stop button), and we therefore had to walk the 800 meters back from the Hella. Here we easily located the marked trailhead for Vassvarden and proceeded to follow the nice winding trail up towards Vestrheim. At Vestrheim we came across the old school building and a sign pointing left (i.e. west) for Ruud (or Rud as it was called on the map), our next target. Kjeringafjell from Kleppa

I started from the parking lot at Kleppa and from there tried to follow the signs to Kjeringafjell (or rather Kjeringi as used on the signs). The first sign indicated that it was only 6.2 km to the summit, which I found odd, given that earlier PB reports showed distances closer to 10 km. However, most, if not all, of these were from skiing trips, so perhaps the summer route was shorter. The signs did not always include Kjeringi though, resulting in multiple checks of the GPS to make sure that I was choosing the correct option when the trail split. This became much easier when getting above the tree line, but then the signs were not really needed anymore anyway. After leaving the gravel road, there were also a couple of wet sections, but most could easily be avoided by following the trail next to the tractor road instead of the >>>

We started by following the marked skiing trail from Rindabotn to south of Fjærlandssetvatnet (with a minor shortcut up to Kollsetevatnet). From there we more or less followed the summer trail towards the summit, with some adjustments along the way. After enjoying the excellent views we returned to the marked trail and passed over Høgehaug on the way back down to Rindabotn.
