Snow-covered Liatårnet from Li

Considering the snow-covered landscape outside and comparably good weather, it was not too difficult to decide for a nice Sunday hike. We took our car towards the west (Sotra) and there to Li (on the east-side of Liatårnet). Near Haugane, we parked and continued along Liaskjervegen walking until we came to Hola, where we found Hølo (a short road up to the west from F206). Pretty much at the top end of this short road, we then found the path to Liatårnet (and were positively surprised that it was easy to find!). Since someone had gone there already, it was even easy to step up the snow-covered path. Furthermore, we got the impression that rather recently a substantial effort must have been put into this path (with a few signs here and there, a proper stone bridge across a small stream, >>>

We expected a few hours of nice weather and thus left home before lunch to get started. Also this time , our plan was to hike some not so often visited tops in Sund kommune. We took road 555 to Sotra and then further to the south until we came to a small place called Vorland. There, we parked and started our hike along Gjerdevegen (in eastern direction). Soon behind the last house at Gjerdevegen we crossed over some wet terrain (still in eastern direction), in order to connect to a simple path that then continues in northeastern direction (towards Kleiva). Tveitafjellet

In order to get some fresh air, we disregarded the unfavorable weather conditions (rather strong storm, intermixed with some precipitation) and headed towards Sotra. The bridge (Sotrabrua) was guarded on both sides, because of the strong winds, but we could still cross over. On Sotra, we continued along road #555 towards Fjell and from there further south, coming by Dala and Hammarsland. At Tveita, we then started to look out for a spot, where we could park, but continued to Eide just a bit further south to actually find a suitable place along the road. Sine we had planned to go up Tveitafjellet first, we first walked a bit back along the road (in northern direction) until we found a good spot to enter Eidesdalen, just southwest of Tveitafjellet. Storskaret and Ebbesvikfjellet on Litlesotra

Since we had plans to buy a few things at a shop at Straume, we decided to use a bit of time for getting some fresh air nearby. While driving to Litlesotra, we repeatedly changed our minds in terms of which road to follow, ending up in Straumsfjellvegen, eventually. Understanding that his road would not let us drive further into the south of Litlesotra, we decided to park at a southern spot along Svartabergje and to walk from there. We used a connection for pedestrians to get down to Arefjordvegen first, before following this street in eastern direction a bit (until a rather large roundabout right next to Storskaret). Algrøyna, Barmaneset, Langtrotten -- wow!

We parked the cars just before entering the main village on Algrøyna and started to hike from there. It had just poored down substantially, but as we started hiking the weather improved and soon we saw some sun, also! :-) We first followed the "main road", Nordre Øyavegen, in a longer swing to the right/north, before turning left, continuing on Kongvikvegen. Before the end of this road and about where Kungvika has its western-most point, we left the road, walking around a farm house right next to the road, in order to connect to the southern side of Kungvika (and eventually to Barmaneset). Once on the "middle" peninsula of Algrøyna, we followed a path with blue marks towards the west. This path leads out on Barmaneset and to Krabbakeila at its western end. Enjoying >>>

Nice and wild Skogsøyna

We parked our cars near the bridge between Skogsøyna and Herdlevær, where a board also tells the hikers about the island and the paths that one can take. From there, we followed the main path along the northwestern shore of Skogsøyna, heading towards the spectacular southwestern end of the island. After a bit of hiking, we approached Skogsøytua, i.e., the highest point on this trip (about 45mosl). From there, instead of heading back "as usually", we first explored the lower parts of the cliffs at Skogshola. Note that it is critical that you indeed judge the situation correctly in order to avoid any dangerous and unwanted problems with the sea. Short hike on Storskora

After our hike on Turøyna , we continued with a short hike on Storskora, visiting a little light house at the northwestern end of this little island. Following a nicely marked path from the street, it was straight-forward to reach our target. From there, we basically took the same path back, then. Exploring Turøyna

It was time to get out to Turøyna and explore the rather wild nature there! We started from the street to the small settlement on Turøyna and headed towards the large cairn, Turøyvarden, on the largest top of the island. From there, we continued northwards (and without any path) to reach Svartanova via Tuskeluren. From there, to get further northwest to Laksneset, we had to find a way to cross over a rather deep trough. Starting relatively low on Svartanova and searching for a proper place "on half height", walking in southwestern direction, proved to be the right approach and after only a few steps, we were able to cross over. Snow-covered Liatårnet (via an unusual route)

Very nice hike over snow-covered Liatårnet! We started from the west, followed the road (towards the shooting range), before we then entered one of the main hiking paths to Liatårnet (the main route up from the west). But instead of following this path all the way up, we took a turn to the right (southeast) shortly before reaching the main west-face of Liatårnet (at about 200mosl) and connected to another, not so major path, which leads up to Liatårnet from the south. We then connected to Pyttane, walking through a lovely winter landscape, passing by Tårnavatnet. Instead of then following the main road up/down Pyttane, we continued "along the ridge towards the north" (without a path). Sauafjellet

We took the car to Sotra and there to Fjæreide (near Knappskog). We parked near the place where seemingly also the bus turns around (more or less in the middle between Fjæreidpollen in the NE and Fjæreidvatnet in the SW). We then walked first for a few meters down the road which leads down to the water (Fjæreidpollen/Smalneset), before then turning left (following a sign from Kyststien). Within short we were in the snow and soon after we departed from the path towards Spjeldsfjellet (our plan was to get up Sauafjellet first).
