Vardafjellet/Orretuva

Quick Sunday afternoon round, including Vardafjellet and Orretuva, starting from Fjellbirkeland, following first a gravel road towards south-east into Tjørnadalen, before turning back upwards (to the north-east) towards Vardafjellet first, then Orretuva. Afterwards, down to Stignavatnet and along it, before back up to the gravel road. All in all, the hike was moderately boring with only short parts (for ex., along Stignavatnet) through quite romantic nature.

While my son played some soccer at Slåtthaug, I made a quick ascent to nearby Torneberget -- it's a not-at-all-prominent peak in front of Smøråsfjellet, towards Bergen, with selected views northwards over Bergen. Descending towards Slåtthaug, without any path through the woods, was a little bit challenging, because descending finally towards the houses of Smøråsflaten proved to be very steep (just a few meters, bust still).

Easy afternoon hike with some nice views! Starting from Bjøllehaugane, first in direction south-east, before entering the ridge up to Solbakkafjellet, it's easy to find (if you take the right turns -- a few paths lead other ways!). On the top, which is stretched out quite a bit, a few nice views over Bergen and nearby mountains (Sveningen, Hausdalshorgi, Sydpolen, etc.) are possible. Down, we first continued towards Frotveitvatnet, before turning left and back (in parallel, south-east to the "main road" into Bontveit). The last stretch -- from Lonsmoget to Almeland -- we made through a pretty magical forest! :-)

Nice small tour up Raudlifjellet (via Nordhordlandskulten) from Tømmernes -- the path is not easy to find at once, but once one has found it (also not difficult), it's nice and easy to the top(s). Some nice views towards Kalandsvatnet and towards Os.

Starting from Traunsee (~450m, southeast from Gmunden), up the Naturfreundesteig (climbing trail, category A/B), we first reached Traunsteinhaus (1575m, still quite new after a recent upgrading). It took a bit more than 2 hours, but easily this could be more, depending on the climbing conditions -- it's more than 1000m up a substantially steep climbing path! Then, we connected to Gmundner Hütte (1660m), another impressive house on top of this prominent mountain! The actual top, Traunstein (1691m) is then quite near and easy to reach. Down we took the trail towards Mair Alm, which is very steep, but good to go. All in all, including an extended break on Gmundner Hütte, this was about 6+ hours of hiking. Very rewarding!

Up from Bad Ischl (where the cable car starts, at 470m, via Bildweg) to Katrinalm (1413m), which is a nice, steep hike up (about 1000m up) and then -- after some nice rest with served food and drinks -- quickly up to Katrin-Kreuz (1542m) and Elferkogel (1601m). Down, then, very comfortably with the cable car. :-)

Starting from Taferlklaussee (763m), we first ascended to Hochleckenhaus (1574m) via a well-marked path (note: the start is somehow unclear -- mostly due to many other small trails near and around Taferlklausssee). After a nice and refreshing rest at Hochleckenhaus -- yes, with served food and drinks! :-) -- we descended towards Steinbach am Attersee (via Geissalm and Stieg -- the 2nd option for hiking to Steinbach), which offers terrific views -- not at the least to Attersee! The path down from Höllengebirge is (partially) steep and it's hundreds of meters straight down next to the path in selected places (you better are not afraid of heights there). All in all, a great hike! :-)

Beautiful tour up and down Oksen -- in fantastic summer weather! :-) We started from the parking place right above Tjoflot (at about 200m above the fjord) and took the (nice!) path via Vindhovden up to Oksen (we made the top, roughly 1000m above the parking place, after about 100mins.). We then continued to Veten and enjoyed the views and a break there! :-) Then back to Tjoflot, more or less the same path.

Taking the fast ferry from Hammerfest (check the schedule as this ferry is not going equally every day!) to Akkarfjord and hiking from there -- great experience! :-)

After arriving in Hammerfest quite late this day, I only made a quick and medium-short hike in the hills nearby the city. It was interesting to see, how Hammerfest struggles with all the reindeer around (having built a major fence, not at the least, for example). And, yes, you meet many of them just a "few steps" away from the city...
Note: I found it interesting that I could not find out, whether the tops, which I visited, have any names (and if so, which ones) -- if anyone knows, then please let me know! :-)
