Undoubtably one of the best views on Kvaløya and the best, most challenging scrambling I've done to date. We parked in the big parking place opposite Tverrfjellet and followed the path up to the left hand side of the river. Around 500moh the trail flattened out, the trail disappeared and we followed the right hand side of Tverrfjellvatnet in easy terrain and over sturdy rocks. After around 45 minutes we started gaining elevation again, this time up looser rocks. The views were already stunning back over Katfjordeidet, over to Blåskredtinden and sommarøya.
We picked a path over the rocks until we came to a point where we could see two steep stone pillars. From here we scrambled around to the left which was very exposed. After completing this section we thought it has to be better on the right hand side (which it looked like it was) and we would try this on the way back. We now stood below the last tower to the top. We scrambled around to the right hand side of the tower and climbed our way up. The scrambling was super fun and challenging, with really high grips and foot ledges in some places. Definitely wouldn't have made it on the way down some of the more exposed sections without Paal's help, as some of the grips were high enough that my feet didnt touch the ground with almost outreached arms haha! Absolutely stunning views over the whole of Kvaløya, and even to Store Bentfjordstinden and Hamperokken.
We had a long lunch break on top before heading back down. Followed more or less the same path, though instead of walking all the way towards tverrfjellet we cut down through the valley to the left, walking on the opposite side of the river. Here I managed to end the day in style by slipping on a rock, taking a swim and breaking one of my hiking poles (now the second since june! :() Takk for en finfin dag til fjells uglefisk (Paal Andre Lund)
