Ended up taking a solotur to Rundfjellet today after Ilona injured her knee on Haveren the day before. Drove to Storvassbotn and parked up at the side of the road, slapped on some expedition-strength insect repellent and got some tunes going on my mp3 player. Then I felt more or less ready to tackle the mean-looking forest in front of me.

I was actually very pleasantly surprised by the good-quality footpath all the way up through the forest which made the experience a whole lot easier and enjoyable despite the many drops of sweat which were pouring off my forehead. It was around 11.30 and already 21 degrees when I started the hike up, so it was not a huge surprise that I was feeling so warm!

The views got a bit better after a while :-)

The route followed first the ridge over Kvannfjellet, passing some lakes to the right. The views were OK but seemed a bit boring until I reached about 600m on the ridge towards the top. Then suddenly there were superb views everywhere and for the rest of the way to the top.

The path disappeared somewhere on the ridge so I had to make up my own way to the summit over the rocks, which turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected. I would't call it proper scrambling but hands were definitely needed......After 1h 45 I was on the top and admiring the fine mountain/ocean/island scenery around me. Fortunately the insects had mostly disappeared and I had the luxury of eating my lunch before I was eaten up by flies or mosquitoes first. Now all I was missing was my turkompis :-(

I took the same way down and passed about 4 other cheerful-looking walkers on their way up. By the time I had got back down it was even warmer than when I'd started - my car thermometer hit 24.5 degrees on the drive back towards Svolvær!
