Trip Summary
Another nice day on Senja, another chance for a nice hike! :-) We drove to Mefjordeidet, basically where Arnakkveien "disappears" into the tunnel down to Ørnfjorden, and parked there at the small parking place. We then started to follow a marked trail "straight up" (in northern direction) that lead us to Daven, a first little top (with nice views, though!). From Daven, it was then across a small saddle (in the east of Daven) and up to some intermediate heights in the south of Keipen (at about 525masl). Crossing over these intermediate heights, first, and then ascending (steeply) up, we arrived at the saddle between Grtyetippen (in the west) and Keipen (in the east / northeast) at about 730 masl. From there, we first included Grytetippen, enjoying fantastic views from its top (while Keipen is higher than Grytetippen, one could argue that the views from Grytetippen are even nicer, actually). Then, it was back down to the saddle and up to Keipen on the other side. Especially after first reaching the saddle (at about 730masl), reaching both Grytetippen and then Keipen is easy and straight-forward, actually! Keipen then welcomes its visitors with a little platform on its very top (besides a nice, large cairn, also). We enjoyed some good time on the top before then descending, again, basically following the same trail(s) down that we had taken up earlier, already. Hiking Grytetippen (and also Keipen) is definitely recommended! Very nice! :-)
