After a night of camping at Sandvika, the family (mom, son 10 and daughter 2) decided to make a 10 på topp hike up the Lakstinden. After walking from our tent spot to the start of the trail we had to open and duck under a little fence. Afterwards it was a bit of a muddy start followed by a very nice path up the side of the mountain. The views were amazing and after a couple of breaks to catch our breath we got up to the first level point. The flies were a bit annoying and the kids got bit by a few mosquitoes but otherwise it was awesome. After leveling out for a bit we crossed a small stream (with a bridge where our daughter started singing a song about trolls) we started the larger, steeper hike up the mountain. Here the trail was at times hard to follow and there was a fair amount of loose rock, but otherwise the views and terrain were very pleasing. Finally after getting almost to the top we found a nice little lake, and after one last push up another steap section, we made it to the top. As all hikes in Northern Norway can be, the weather suddenly shifted from perfect sun to pretty windy and cloudy. After a short stop to sign a logbook and grab a quick bite to eat (while the youngest slept in her carrying pack) we quickly made our way down to a bit lower elevation where the sun (and summer) returned. My daughter and I quickly made ou way down the mountain because by this time the bugs started biting her a bit more. She, being half russian and half american, has a bit of a temper, and of course she assumed i was biting her. Thankfully (from her perspective) she had picked up a rock she could use to gently remind the back of my head that I shouldnt bit her.... Down at the bottom we made a trip to the store to get ice cream after another wonderful hike.
