Short local hike after work including an exploration of the northern tip of Eidsvågsneset/Furubotn, an area I had previously assumed was only available via trespassing. This was however far from the case, and it was even set up as a local recreational area that was easily accessible.

After our hike at Tyssøyna , we made the short drive to the parking lot in front of Bjorøy skule. From there we walked about 250 meters south along the road to an unmarked trailhead taking us via Langafjellet (although not via the highest point, which is on a small ridge less than 150 meters to the west) to Nibben . Pretty good views from the summit, although not as great as from Varden on Tyssøyna. So far, the trail had been ok and even had the occasional trail marker, but shortly after turning northeast for Rundelen the trail pretty much disappeared (even though we were following the trail indicated on the map). We did however connect with a marked trail shortly before turning north towards the summit. Hence there should be a better route in between these two summits. Tyssøyna: Varden and Smivågen

Given the excellent weather forecast, I decided to take half a day of "vinterferie" to explore Tyssøyna and Bjorøyna. First up was Tyssøyna. We parked at Tyssøyna p-plass and from there followed the roads towards the marked trailhead for the short detour to Varden , which provided great views despite being only 80 meters above sea level. We continued south, and later west, still along a marked trail until reconnecting with the gravel road east of the summit. After a visit of Simvågen we followed yet another marked trail along the coast via Skjervika and Tyssøyvågen before getting to the paved road and from there returning to the car. Overall, a very nice short trip that can be highly recommended.

On a Sunday with strong winds at high altitudes, I decided to stay away from the most exposed summits and instead made yet another return to Masfjorden and Storevatnet. This time to visit Hestfjellet . But after getting off the bus (at the bus stop called Nedre Storavatn), I however started to think that coming here today might have been a mistake, as the road towards Haugsdal was covered with ice and I was now walking into a headwind that I almost had to lean into in order to stay upright. Thankfully, I had brought my snow chains, which took care of the first problem, while it also did not take long before I was sheltered from the worst of the wind. Combined with the warmth from the sun it actually ended up as a rather pleasant walk towards the trailhead next to Kjetland. The snow chains stayed on until >>>

On a Saturday where the weather forecast was not very suitable for longer hikes, at least not those also requiring travelling, I decided to rather go for an exploration of Åstveitskogen - an area close by that I had not previously visited. I started by taking the bus to Åstveit and getting off at the stop called "Åstveitvegen". After a short walk along the road I easily located the unmarked trailhead into Åstveitskogen and shortly passed by a shelter with a sign that said "Hundremeterskogen". Plenty of trails/gravel roads to choose from and I made a quick visit of Åstveitvatnet, or Kanalen as it was called on the signs, before heading north and following a marked trail towards Hestaberget . The summit itself had very limited views, but there was a spot about 200 meters west of the summit with nice views to the south and >>>
