Svelihovden and Såbotshaugen
We parked at Kvamsvegen P-plass and from there followed the gravel road up to Kvamsstølen. Here we passed through a gate and continued northwest on what was most likely the old road to Kvamsstølen. At Høgaleitet, southeast of the unnamed 243 hill, we turned west and followed a tractor road northwest towards the trail to Norhytten. However, we got fooled by the trail indicated on the map and continued too far along the tractor road. Instead of retracing our steps to locate the missed exit, we went for a shortcut following a deer track through the semi-dense vegetation, and had to climb a fence.
When walking south along the fence we soon came across the gate we should have passed through, with clear trails in both directions. I took the short detour back through the gate to figure out where we had missed our exit. The trail had been partially hidden by the trees, but should have been easy enough to spot, and we probably would have located it if it weren't for getting distracted by the tractor road and the trail indicated on the map.
After returning to the gate, we shortly arrived at the trail heading up to Såbotshaugen, which we then proceeded to follow, except for a short off-trail detour to Svelihovden. Svelihovden provided nice views, but given a vertical separation of maximum 1 meter, I added it as a viewpoint instead of as a separate peak. Såbotshaugen was more of a pronounced peak and provided excellent views, and has now been added as a new PB-element. From Såbotshaugen, we followed a weaker trail to quickly connect with the main trail towards Kvamsvegen, and soon we were back at the parking lot. As a bonus, we spotted a total of eleven deer before reaching the larger road at Gaupås!
In summary, a very nice with excellent views, and along much better trails than expected. Just make sure to skip our "deer track shortcut". ;)
