We started our trip a bit later than we thought and left the car around 6.45pm. The sun was strong and the snow was slushy and there was no wind whatsoever. Once we came to the hill before the lake, we could see tracks traversing the upper left hand side of the hill. We decided that, with the stable snow conditions, we would traverse instead of losing elevation down to the lake and up again. The traverse took a lot longer than we thought, we ended up taking our gear off twice to walk over patches of rock and grass. Pretty annoying for Alex on a splitboard.
We could see that around 3/4 of the way across, some snow had begun to melt off a slippery rock and had triggered a small slide, but we weren't sure how old it was. The tracks we were walking on were definitely fresh from today. Once we got >>>
Store Hesten

We been pretty spoilt the last few days with mountains to ourselves and no other humans in sight, so it was almost strange to pull into parking for Store Hesten and see quite a few people up on the ridge after the forrest.
We put our skiis on from the roadside and followed the power lines up through the forrest. Årets første BH tur var i gang ;) It was seriously warm today! After the first 400ish meters of elevation, the terrain started to flatten out and we made our way over to the lake. Here we had to decide to do a low or high traverse, as the lake had started cracking around the edges and we weren't sure we wanted to ski on it. This side was still really icy, so we decided to lose some elevation and take the lower traverse.
Once we got to the other side of the lake, we could see the summit >>>

Kvænen was on my list for this winter and with really nice weather forecast in the evening, we decided to give it a go. We set up camp about a 5 minute drive away, and drove to the start of the trail around 345pm. No other cars in sight made us pretty hopeful we would get this mountain all to ourselves as well. From here we put our skis on straight away and made a trail up through the trees, gaining elevation steadily & effectively.
The terrain was easy to read to choose a safe path up, though the large bowl to the right was filled with avalanches, and we saw some huge cornices break off and crash down into it as we were walking up. Soon after we started heading up, the sun came out, and the haze and wind disappeared. The elevation seemed to disappear quickly today and the views got better >>>
Langlitinden - en suveren topp!

The weather south looked more promising than in Lyngen for this week, so we decided to start our prolonged easter holidays down in Andørja. Paal had been to Langlitinden in summer and was keen to give it a try on skis. We drove to Straumbotn and set up camp at the start of the trail. It had been heavy rain and gale-force winds all night and morning, but according to the forecast, things were set to clear up in the afternoon. After lunch sheltering from the wind inside the tent, the weather started getting better and we decided around 330pm that we would try our luck. We started carrying our skis up the well-marked trail for the first 20 minutes, before we hit the first continuous patches of snow.
Here we switched to skis and continued following the summer route all the way up. We had to cross >>>
Kinnbeinet

A warm and windy day in Tromsø. We parked along the road in Løvdal and walked up the right hand side of the river. After crossing the river, we continued in the valley and soon could see the
top of kinnbeinet.
Not the most effective elevation gain and we copped the full force of todays wind. Once we came to the pass we continued on the (somewhat narrow) ridge for a few minutes and soon came to the top.
I walked back down most of the ridge to the pass and then skiied down the way we came up, Paal chose a steeper decent down the south east face. Sinnsykt luggeføre, so after skiing down the steepest section we skiied the rest of the way with loose heels, to make the flatter sections easier. Definitely a trip for cold, hard packed snow...
