Cerro Castillo
- Date:
- 28.11.2017
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 3:43h
- Distance:
- 13.6km
My favourite hike in Patagonia! We began our hike after driving to the town of Cerro Castillo in Patagonia. We drove north out of town, took a turn to the left and followed a bridge over a river until we came to a parking place. We had to pay 10,000pesos each (ca. 150kr) to walk for 45 minutes across a private property. The trail was clearly marked, and the whole day we saw only 4 other people. The trail was quite sandy, but very easy to walk on with no stones. After about an hour we had climbed a decent amount of elevation and came to some snow patches. We walked up over these and had climbed 1000m in elevation after just under 2 hours, where we were greeted with an amazing view of Cerro Castillo and a lake that was still half frozen. Paal walked around the edge of the lake to a the edge of >>>
Las Torres del Paine
- Date:
- 17.11.2017
- Characteristic:
- Hillwalk
- Duration:
- 5:00h
- Distance:
- 21.0km
Hiking to the Mirador las Torres from Hotel las Torres in Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia. The hike was simple - a wide, easy to walk path with a million people on it.... uglefisk (Paal Andre Lund) gikk hele turen med å si 'jævla 17. mai tog!'. We walked pretty steadily, gaining and losing elevation for the first 9km or up until around 570moh. From there it was a nice, steep push up to the viewpoint of Mirrador Las Torres, we welcomed the raise in heart rate after a few hours of meandering along the river! A nice experience, but sadly we were pretty let down as our expectations of hiking here were really high. Way too many people and tourists and a lot of rubbish everywhere. We had planned to do the 10-day O-circuit but changed our plans because of this hike and left the park after only 1 day. Would have been >>>
Refugio Frey
- Date:
- 11.11.2017
- Duration:
- 5:30h
- Distance:
- 9.8km
This hike was stunning! We began by camping at Lago Gutierrez and following the signs along a nice path through the forrest. The first 5km were pretty flat and we didn't start gaining elevation until we had been walking for 1 hour or so. A really hot day, so we were glad wherever there was tree shelter, though the trail became sandy as we started gaining elevation and I could feel my pasty skin starting to burn to a crisp! The views got more and more impressive as we looked out over a beautiful lake and soon we hit snow, which was fun and a new experience for me to walk in. Paal had a good laugh at how many times I fell over! Soon we could see Refugio Frey and the beautiful, spiky tops of Cerro Catedral - Paal was really hanging out for his skiis! Pretty late in the season but still lots of >>>
Sacred Valley Via Ferrata
- Date:
- 28.10.2017
- Characteristic:
- Via ferrata
After trying the Vest Veggen Via Ferrata in Åndalsnes earlier this year, we were excited to give the Via Ferrata in the Sacred Valley a go while we were acclimatizing at altitude before our Salkantay treck to Machu Pichu. Quite an easy Via Ferrata. Would have been nice to do this alone, the pace went really slowly as we were in a large group and this was quite frustrating. The Zip Lining on the way down was really fun. Definitely not a bad way to spend the day as a day trip from Cusco, but the via ferrata in itself could have been more challenging.
Hanging Glacier - Queulat National Park

This hike was short and simple and followed a good path into a viewpoint of the hanging glacier inside the Queulat national park.
