Apply for permission before activation - otherwise you risk a 5000 € fine!

The German military (Bundeswehr) runs a facility on Erbeskopf and the complete summit is a protection area of the military. There are no signs and the protection area is not limited to the area within the fences. Setting up any kind of antenna without permission on Erbeskopf is considered an offense by the Bundeswehr and can be fined with up to 5000 €.

You have to apply for a permission in advance by filling out the form available at

Permissions can be granted for up to six months within a calendar year. Please give the desired period in the form in the line "am (Gültigkeitsdatum)".

The Bundeswehr asks for one month of lead time, but typically permissions are returned within a few days.

Please note without permission you are breaking the SOTA general rules for valid activations:
Rule 3.7.1 Clause 7 "All operation must comply with all limitations on the use of transmitting equipment that may exist for the summit."
