Fløyen from Bergen harbor

With guests, just arrived from Austria, we exploited the nice weather and showed Bergen from above (from Fløyen). Up by feet, down by Fløybanen. :-) Not a big hike (and definitely not alone), but clearly a nice day and always nice to look down onto Bergen from the top station of Fløybanen! :-)

We parked near Nedre Romslo at Romslovegen (very near to the E16). Our goal was to reach the ridge of Innapåeggi and then to follow it upwards into the direction of Gullfjellet. At house 243, shortly before crossing over E16, we left Romslovegen and started to ascend towards the ridge. First, we used a path until we came close to the forest. From there on, it was mostly through the forest and towards the ridge. This part was steep and the underground was partly unstable. It is highly recommended to plan carefully and to not follow this track without having good shoes. Also, it was useful to use our hands every now and then, before reaching the ridge. Clearly, this first part of our hike required a portion of hiking experience! Once on the ridge, however, the hike turned into a wonderful >>>

We started from the small parking place at Øvre Totland and headed right towards the long ridge of Totlandsfjellet. Enjoying lovely spring weather, we ascended swiftly towards the top of Totlandsfjellet. The next goal was then to cross over to Livarden. When getting over from Totlandsfjellet to Livarden near Seterhaugen, we were positively surprised that the terrain was not overly wet (even though we still saw a little bit of snow there). From Karvestølen it was then only a few minutes to ascent to Livarden via Nordvardsbrekkene. At Livarden, we enjoyed a short break, before heading back. Instead of hiking back the same path, however, we followed the ridge towards Ulvursfjellet (the main path up and down Livarden). Instead of staying on the higher ridge (with the main path), we followed >>>

Before one of us had to leave the country, the prospect of sitting some hours on planes was enough to bring us out for a short hike (even though the weather was not the best). Since time was short, the decision was easy: one quick walk over Knappen! :-) Refreshing!

We took the car from Bergen via Åsane to Gaupås and parked right at Arna stadion. Our first goal was to visit Osen (via Gamsevegen) and to check whether one indeed has a nice view from up there -- and, yes, the view, for example across Gaupåsvatnet, is quite nice! :-) From there, we wanted to connect to Sjurstonipa. But instead of taking the nice path back, which we used to get up to Osen, we descended along a stone wall that runs towards the east from Osen. At the lower end of this descent (near Kvernaskaret), the terrain is quite a bit steep and choosing ones steps carefully was advised (no problem, though, to get down to the saddle). On the other side, we then ascended to the Lavvo place near the upper houses of Ytre Arna. Instead of entering Ytre Arna, we continued across the "top", >>>
Olsokfjellet, Damgårdsfjellet, and Gravdalsfjellet

We started near Betanien hospital in upper Fyllingsdalen and walked upwards into Nordnæsdalen. A little north of the sports plain at Nordnæsdalen, we found the path to the right (east), which leads up to Olsokfjellet. Half way up, when leaving the trees behind, we enjoyed a few nice views towards the south and over Fyllingsdalen. From the top of Olsokfjellet, we connected to Damsgårdsfjellet. After crossing Damsgårdsfjellet southeast--northwest, we descended into Skaret (icy!) before continuing into the direction of Gravdalsfjellet from there (mostly westwards, first). Finding all the paths in the snow without any difficulties, we quickly connected to Gravdalsfjellet. At the top of Gravdalsfjellet, we again enjoyed some nice views! :-) Descending in southern direction from there, >>>
Wet Løvstakken

Even though the clouds were hanging really low and even though it was as wet outside as it looked from inside (very!), we still decided to get some fresh air. We chose Løvstakken, but wished to hike it from Krambua and long a trail that we wished to explore. We parked near the BoA sports shop and after a few "wild meters", we were ready to walk up Grønnestølen (along Grønnestølensveien first, then further up parallel to a little stream that comes down in the south of Grønnestølen. Ascending on the right (eastern) side of this stream, we continued further up along a nice (and quite steep) path (though Dalen). At about 250mosl, we briefly lost our path, but managed to reconnect to it soon after. From there, then, it was pretty straight-forward to further ascend to Løvstakken >>>

We only had a bit of time to get some fresh air and thus decided to do Knappen, once again. :-) We started from Varden, descended to Bjørgeveien first, before then using Sandeidbrotet to connect to a path that would lead us further up and towards Knappen. Once up on the heights (still in the very north of Knappen), we this time followed a minor (and wet) path more towards the northeastern side of the "Knappen-plateau" (than the more usual path on the western side). Halfway along this path, however, we decided that we would still cross over to the "top" of Eldtona, before continuing further to Knappen. Once on Knappen, we this time chose the path leading (more or less) directly down to Knappatjørna (in eastern direction). Before actually getting all the way down, however, >>>
Ørnafjellet and Lyderhorn

We took the car to Gravdal in order to go up to Ørnafjellet first. Instead of going up via Kvarven and the paved road there, we decided to use a minor path that leads up relatively directly from the east (half way up, one can appreciate a sign calling this ascent "Mördarbacken"). In order to get there, we used the wooden stairs behind the industrial buildings around Nutec in Gravdalsbukten. Once up the stairs, we continued through a little valley in southern direction until we came up to a place with a small soccer field. From there, the actual ascent to Ørnafjellet starts (in western direction and mostly straight upwards). Before actually getting to the top of Ørnafjellet, one reaches a small saddle near to Skåleviksvatnet. From there, it's mostly in southern direction >>>

We started from Varden and wished to get some fresh air before dawn time. We first descended to Gjeddevatnet near Myratjørna. We then followed along the lakeside to Gjerdsvika, where we continued along a path that leads upwards in norther direction. Crossing over the "heights" there (between Hesjaholtet on the right / east and the lakes on the left / west), we descended towards Bjørndalsvatnet from there. We then walked along the lake until we came to its northern most bay. From there, we continued along a nice path (in northern direction), getting to Svartatjørna a little later. We passed by Svartatjørna on its western side, continuing along another nice path that connects to Tennebekk. There, we first went to this place, which reminds of some tragic deaths at the end >>>
