Ørnafjellet (and Lyderhorn) the "wild" way
- Date:
- 14.11.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 17.6km
After a very nice "standard" hike to Møsnuken the day before, we wished to use the second nice weekend day for another, maybe a bit more "experimental" hike. For some time already, we had asked ourselves, whether it is possible to ascend Ørnafjellet near Lyderhorn "direttissima" from Banuren. This Sunday, we thought to try this idea. We took our eBikes and biked along Bjørgeveien into the direction of Loddefjord. After rounding Svartaberget and Bjørndalstjørna, we cycled northwards on the eastside of Lyderhorn, passing by Liavatnet. On the northeastern side of Lianakken, we turned left and onto Banuren, leading us up to the houses of Banuren. Between Søre Banuren and Nordre Banuren, where one major trail from Lyderhorn comes down, we left our bikes behind, starting >>>
Approaching Ulriken from Fyllingsdalen
- Date:
- 17.10.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip
- Duration:
- 2:00h
- Distance:
- 29.3km
With a nice Sunday ahead of us, we decided to approach our hike by bike (eBike). Starting from Varden in Fyllingsdalen, we first biked around Bønes (along Nordåsvatnet) towards Fjøsanger. From there, we connected to the heights in the south of Storetveit kirke. Following Storetveitvegen, Hagerups vei (around Tveitevannet), and then Birkeveien, we made it to Haukelandsveien, which we followed to the northern side of th hospital. From Årstadveien we then biked along Stemmeveien and Lappen to Tarlebøveien. To focus our hike on higher grounds, we then cycled a little further along Svartediket, before we then left our bikes behind for a nice hike over Vidden . Once back from this hike, we then took the bikes out, again. To get back to Fyllingsdalen, we then chose to take the route via Melkeplassen, biking first along >>>
Short trip to Lyshovden via Bønes
- Date:
- 26.09.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 14.7km
To get a bit of fresh air, I decided to pay Lyshovden a short visit. To do so, I took my eBike and first headed towards the south of Bønes (from Varden via Straume). Near Bønes kirke I took the chance to step up to Storahugen, also. From there, I passed over Bønes via Bønesskogen, connecting to C. J. Hambros vei on the other side. Once at Lyshovden, I first visited the southern hill. After completing a short round, I cycled down to the northern part of Lyshovden. Together with a friend, I then payed Nordre Lyshovden a short visit, before walking around it and getting back up to Lyshovden (then from the north). After that, it was basically to cycle home, again. In surprisingly warm autumn weather, it was nice to get some fresh air! :-)

Micro-tops south of Fyllingsdalen
- Date:
- 05.09.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 20.7km
I took the chance to "round up" a few micro-"tops" in the vicinity. This combined eBiking-hiking trip brought me first to Ruskeneshaugen (I do not recommend to follow my track there; all in all, I'm unsure whether there's any good way to get there; and further, it's unclear, why one would get there in the first place), before I continued into the direction of Grimstad (my next goal was to cross over Dolvikfjellet). At Hammarsland, I followed Hammarslandbakken up (basically to where it then also ends) and ascended from there (first into the direction of Dansehaugen in southwestern direction). At about 100mosl, I connected to a trail, which brought me further up to the saddle (with Dolvikfjellet in the east). Crossing over "all the heights" of Dolvikfjellet in >>>
Biking around Nordåsvatnet
- Date:
- 29.08.2021
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - road
- Duration:
- 1:30h
- Distance:
- 24.6km
To get to a suitable starting location for my Helldal hike today, I took my eBike and made it a (mixed) double round. Starting from Varden in the south of Fyllingsdalen, Bergen, I first biked along Sælenvatnet towards Nordåsvatnet. At Straume, I crossed over to the southern side, and from Søreide, I basically followed Steinsvikvegen in southeastern direction (mostly to get around Steinsvik and over to Nordås). Since my plan was to come by Skjoldabukta on my way to Nesttun, I left Steinsvikvegen near Dortledhaugen (towards the north), finding a connection that led me up to Nordåsvegen. Instead of following Nordåsvegen right away, however, I made a little extra-detour over Nordåshøgda before getting down to Nordåsvegen (a bit further north) again. I then followed Nordåsvegen until I turned >>>
Lyderhorn biked&hiked
- Date:
- 23.11.2019
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip - mixed
- Duration:
- 2:30h
- Distance:
- 16.6km
This time, we decided to combine a little bike trip with a short hike up and down Lyderhorn. We started from Varden in the south of Fyllingsdalen and biked along Bjørgeveien into the direction of Loddefjord. After passing by Vestkanten at Loddefjord, we continued further northwards along Lyderhornveien in the west of Skarpafjellet. After crossing over the highway, we biked further upwards along Kjøkkelvikveien, passing by Kjøkkelvik school. We left our bikes at the place, where we met Lyderhornslien. From there, we hiked the main trail up in southeastern direction, heading towards Små-Lyderhorn, first. This time, we also took a few extra minutes to actually step up to the "top" of Små-Lyderhorn. There, we enjoyed a better view than expected, so it is in fact worthwhile >>>
To Kaizerswaard in Rotterdam and back
- Date:
- 30.06.2018
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip
- Duration:
- 1:30h
- Distance:
- 24.8km
I started from the center of Rotterdam and biked northwards first, crossing the main train station of Rotterdam (through the tunnel). After exploring Provenierssingel a bit, I continued my round via Bergweg to Zwart Janstraat, on which I then cycled into southeastern direction. When crossing the Rotte, I turned into a southern direction and continued until I got to Oudehaven. From there, I followed the Maas river (in eastern direction, mostly), until I came to the large bridge Van Brienenoordbrug. Crossing over the Maas on this bridge, I got myself onto a biking path leading to the park De Twee Heuvels. At Kaizerswaard, I started my return to the center of Rotterdam, first heading towards Lombardijen. Near Spinozapark, I turn right (and into northern direction). After a while, I ended >>>
Exploring Zuiderpark in Rotterdam
- Date:
- 24.06.2018
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip
- Duration:
- 1:00h
- Distance:
- 15.5km
To do a bit of physical work out, we decided to explore Zuiderpark in the south of Rotterdam. To get there, we started in the center of Rotterdam, cycling in southern direction along Westersingel. We then connected to Het Park, before we took the tunnel underneath the Maas river to get to the southern side of Rotterdam. In Oud Charlois, we continued in southwestern direction, parallel to Waalhaven. When getting to Waal, we turned to the left (then in eastern directcion) and started to follow the larger arch of parks, including Zuiderpark and Valkeniersweide. On our way back to Rotterdam, we explored Randweg and Hillevliet, before we got back to Rijnhaven. From there, it was only to cross the bridge Erasmusbrug to complete this loop through the south of Rotterdam.

Exploring Middendelfland by bike
- Date:
- 03.06.2018
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip
- Duration:
- 3:00h
- Distance:
- 37.3km
This day, we decided to explore Middendelfland with our bikes. We cycled first northwards from the center of Rotterdam, passing by the airport at its eastern end. From there, we enjoyed our biking across the fields and along the really many canals. The path along Berkelse Zweth, which brought us nearer to Middendelfland (in western direction) was comparably narrow and some care was needed when letting others pass by. Near Zweth we crossed over the canal Delftsche Schie, which we then followed northwards on its western side. Before getting into Delft, we turned left and entered the large park area Abtswoudse Bos on its eastern end. After cycling through the big park, we continued westwards in the south of Abtswoude. When meeting Vlaardingervaart, another big canal, we turned left again >>>
Spiraling out of Rotterdam :-)
- Date:
- 21.05.2018
- Characteristic:
- Bike trip
- Duration:
- 1:30h
- Distance:
- 14.8km
In order do a bit of physical work out, I just took my bike and left the center of Rotterdam without any particular plan. Within short, however, I had the following idea: why not cycling out of Rotterdam in a spiraling pattern?! Obvious idea, of course! :-) So I started cycling/circling around the Cool district of Rotterdam in ever bigger rounds. Eventually, I completed three full turns, seeing a few places in Rotterdam that I had not been to before (nice!). After a short stop at the Walenburg Cafe north of the main train station in Rotterdam, I returned to the center with a smile on my face. :-)
