Ahead of another conference, this time in Trento, Italy, we used the evening for a stroll through the impressive old town of Trento, offering several Palazzos with large-scale frescos on their walls, as well as the Cathedral of Trento and Torre Civica. Short hike to Jubiläumswarte

Even though it was (again) a very warm day, we still wished to make a bit of a walk and thus decided to simply visit Jubiläumswarte. Sydpolen on a warm June Sunday

As a starter to one week of intense, joint learning we decided to fresh up our minds by hiking one of the most iconic slopes near Bergen: up to Sydpolen from Brekkedalen! As usual, we parked at the very end of the road into Hausdalen and started the hike by walking in the gravel road into Brekkedalen. After crossing Tverrelva and not much above 200masl, we turned left and onto the trail up to Sydpolen. Clearly, a bit of stamina is needed to ascend towards the nice cairn at the top, especially on a warm day! To return back down, we first followed the northern ridge of Sydpolen down (towards Gullfjelltjørnane), before then using the main trail between Redningshytten and Gullfjellet for a short stretch. Taking a different route, on this second day, I walked to the conference crossing through The Park Estate a bit further north, entering through The Park Tunnel leading to Tennis Mews. Hiking the Malvern Hills

To experience some (moderate) height meters together, we drove to Great Malvern and parked along the Upper Beacon Road. From there, we first headed northwards (up to Worcestershire Beacon). Taking a slightly different route back, we then continued southwards, crossing over Perseverance Hill, Jubilee Hill, Pinnacle Hill, and Black Hill to get to the British Camp Hill Fort, which really is very impressive: More than two millenia ago, these massive earth works were constructed as defensive banks and ditches. From there, it was then back north, again, to return to the car. Instead of crossing over all the hills, again, we instead took a route through the forest on the eastern slope of the hills. Stow-on-the-Wold

To add some nice sight-seeing, we also visited picturesque Stow-on-the-Wold, where we made a short walk from the Market Square down Park Street (to The Bell) and then back up to the Market Square, again, where we also took a quick look at the Historic Village Stocks. Visiting Warwick from Leamington Spa

We started in Leamington Spa and first crossed over the River Leam via the Mill Passage (right next to the kind of interesting Elephant Wash). On the other, northern side, we then passed through Jephson Gardens, first, before continuing through Pump Room Gardens on the other side of Parade. Then, we followed the course of the River Leam (again on its southern side) until we connected to the Grand Union Canal, which we then followed in northwestern direction. This brought us to the Avon Aqueduct, where the canal bridges over the River Avon. We then followed the River Avon (on its northern side) further westwards, passing by the Charter Bridge, until we arrived at Banbury Road, where we could see the Warwick Castle from the bridge.
