Trip Summary

Even though I had a lot of work to do, still, I could not resist the nice weather and needed to get out, at least a little! Getting onto my eBike, I decided to visit Alvøen (once again) and check out a few of the smaller hills there. To get there, I decided to pass by Tennebekk, first. I thus biked first north in Fyllingsdalen and at Spelhaugen I got onto the gravel road that leads up to Tennebekk. On the other side, I turned south (southwest), again. Passing by Loddefjord, I aimed at Hilleren in the southwest of Haakonsvern. Once past Mathopen, I connected to Skarelien, which brought me up to Hilrafjellet by basically cycling a "full round" around it, first. From Hilrafjellet, I enjoyed some proper views, before I continued to check out Medhaugen next. While I could also get some views across Vatlestraumen from there, I did not find Medhaugen the most exciting hill, altogether. Next I got to Litle Kongshaugen, which is easily accessed from its east (one finds some concrete steps, probably still from the war, that provide a suitable starting point for getting up). In a way, it was a little amusing to view Store Kongshaugen from Litle Kongshaugen! :-) Funny what one can find amusing! :-) From Litle Kongshaugen, I started thinking about getting back home, but to do so, I considered "completing the double-round". Therefore, I cycled north, into the direction of Alvøen. When very close to the road that leads down to Alvøen in the west, I stopped again and explored a little hill right next to Småvatnet (I had some hopes that I may catch some nice view across Småvatnet from there, but all in all there were still too many trees "in the way"). Once back on my bike, I did not cover too much of a distance before I left my bike behind, again, in order to explore the hills next to Ospedalen a little. Thereafter, I connected to the gravel road on the western side of Storavatnet, including a little excursion up to Bjørnhaugen, before cycling back to Varden from there. Given the limited time available, this little double-round to Alvøen was still very nice to refresh myself a little! :-)
