Trip Summary

Nice to have guests, who wish to go hiking in the mountains near Bergen! :-)
The original plan was to do this on Saturday, but since the weather forecast was much better on Friday afternoon, we arranged for this timeplan instead. We left Bergen with the car into the direction of Os (on E39). After coming by Kalandsvatnet, we turned left at about Kalandseidet to enter the relatively narrow road into Hausdalen. Driving Hausdalen all the way in, we arrived at the parking place near the beginning of Brekkedalen (at the very end of the road through Hausdalen). From there, we first walked along the gravel road into Brekkedalen (in eastern direction). We came by Sandane (a nice spot in Brekkedalen!) and also took the bridge over Tverrelva, coming down from the left/north, still continuing through Brekkedalen. Shortly after, however, at about 220mosl, the trail to Sydpolen leave the gravel road to the left (north). The very first meters are kind of gentle, basically until one passes under the power line not far from the gravel road. Then, however, the steady (and quite steep) ascent to Sydpolen starts (about 700 height meters up). The ridge as such is straight-forward to step up and one should not forget to turn around every now and then to enjoy steadily changing views across Brekkedalen (looking down into Brekkedalen is nice, seeing Sveningen on the other side, also, and from about half the way up one can see Samnangerfjorden, also!). After a while, we arrived at Sydpolen and decided that we would include the round around Gullfjelltjørnane, also. We thus continued over the high ridge, including Søre Gullfjelltoppen. North of Gullfjelltjørnane, we then connected with the main trail up to Gullfjellet, starting our way back from there. We also included Gullfjellet (not Gullfjelltoppen) on the way back and descended along the main trail to Korketrekkjaren. At about 650mosl, where the main trail makes a major turn (from southwestern direction into the direction of Redningshytten in the northwest) and where a nice lake is found, we decided to return to our car via Toro. We thus left the main trail there, continuing in southern direction and up to the saddle into Tverrdalen. From the saddle, it's then about 45 height meters up to the "top" of Toro (Toro is worth visiting for the views to across Hausdalen in the west of it and for its nice southern ridge that offers a wonderful descent into Brekkedalen). From there we descended along the long southern ridge (Åsen, Hausdalsåsen) towards Brekkedalen. At about 320mosl, where the trail meets the power line, one can choose between a forest road down (continuing in eastern direction from there) and a path through the forest (leaving in southwestern direction from there). The forest trail is the short connection to Brekkedalen, but it includes some significantly steep stretches at the end of it (can be challenging, especially when wet). Once down in Brekkedalen, again, we ended this nice hike by walking the gravel road out and back to the car. All in all, a really nice way to spend a Friday afternoon/evening! :-)
