Trip Summary

We started from the center of Rotterdam with the goal to see the Janapese Garden in Den Haag, which only is open for a few weeks every year. We started in northern direction, passing by the airport of Rotterdam on its eastern end. From there we cycled across the green region between Rotterdam (in the south), Delft (in the northwest), and Berkel en Rodenrijs (in the east). Coming by numerous canals, we crossed through Delfgauw in the east of Delft from south to north. Soon after, we came by the very nice little lake De Grots Plas, where we stopped to enjoy the view! :-) Thereafter, we continued into the direction of Den Haag, coming through some larger residential areas (not too interesting, after all). After a while, we came to De Vliet, which is a long canal between Delft and Leiden and it was nice to cycled along this canal for a while. After crossing through Voorburg, we tried to find a connection to Den Haag, which looked (on the map) as a long, straight connection of nice parks (Park Vreugd en Rust, Noteboompark, Park 't Loo, all the way to Haagse Bos). Finding this connection (a) and following it (b) turned out a little bit more difficult than originally expected (even though it wasn't really a problem after all). Once in Haagse Bos, it only was a very short distance to the Landgoed Clingendael, where the Japanese garden is placed. After having seen the garden (with many others, in fact :-|), we decided to take a route back to Rotterdam, which lies a little bit further to the east, going through Mariahoeve and Leidschendam. After cycling through Haagoord and Nootdorp, we finally came back into the open, meeting and following the train line towards the south. We came through Pijnacker, bringing us to Berkel en Rodenrijs in the north of Rotterdam. Near the airport of Rotterdam, we connected back to the path that we had taken northover earlier this day, following it back to the center of Rotterdam.
