Peakbook Summit 2014

From 18th to 21st of september we want to welcome you to the first Peakbook Summit in history. It will be held at Leirvassbu, an eldorado for peakbaggers and mountaineers in Norway. Join a great mountain weekend with an exciting program and meet other likeminded people, Peakbook members or not.

The venue

Leirvassbu is situated a little more than 1400 masl, not too far away from the heart of Jotunheimen, and is surrounded by mountain valleys, glacial lakes, glaciers and not the least numerous peaks above 2000 meters (as well as a few below). Here are great ridge traverses and appealing single peaks, in short something for all tastes. Leirvassbu is also excellent for families with children who want to scale a peak or people who simply don't want to walk so far to reach a summit. With its high altitude it is manageable for most people to reach a 2000 meter peak or more.
Over the weekend from the 18th to 21st of september, Leirvassbu is open exclusively for this event.

Leirvassbu is beautifully situated by the lake Leirvatnet in the heart of Jotunheimen.

The event

We are planning to have a program for the entire weekend to make the visit more exciting, interesting and memorable. Some pieces are already in place, and roughly an outline of what will take place is clear.
  • Slideshows
  • Coordinated / guided tours
  • Peakbook user seminar
  • Mountain-quiz with great prices

Slideshows

There will be two or three guests attending and presenting their narrated slideshows.

  • The Peakbook users Otto and Inger Lise who have scaled every municipality high point in Norway, all major island high points of Norway as well as most of the 2000 m peaks, in addition to an impressive amount of other Norwegian mountains will talk about and show pictures from some of their adventures.
  • The adventurer Sindre Sørhus who sat himself a goal of becoming the first ever to climb all european country high points within one summer, comes and talks about his special project. Things did perhaps not turn out quite as planned, but it turned out to be a journey full of experiences and impressions, just as much in between the ascents as on the mountains. This has become a humerous slideshow worth watching.
  • Maybe another name will join the list as time goes by.

Coordinatet tours

There will be guided and coordinated tours to peaks and places around Leirvassbu. Specific program will be put together as we approach the Summit, but possible targets are Visbreatinden, The Tverrbottind traverse, Store Bukkeholstinden, Skardstinden, Midtre Høgvagltinden, glacier walk on Storbrean, glacier tour to Storebjørn, cavetour to the Dumdalsgrottene.
In addition there will of course be an uncoordinated tour with a joint departure time to the most obvious peak of them all around Leirvassbu, Kyrkja.
Participating on these tours will be free for everyone present, but some of them will naturally have a maximum number of people that can join. Program and how to book a place with the different tours will be presentet a couple of months before the event.

Peakbook user seminar

Depending on interest and needs, there will be user seminars where functionality and possibilities within Peakbook will be demonstrated. There will be possible to ask questions, learn stuff and enter a dialogue with the developers of Peakbook.

Mountain-quiz

Both Friday and Saturday there will be a mountain quiz in the saloon with fine prices.

Prieces and booking

"Festival tickets" are bought directly from us at Peakbook, whilst food and accomodation is booked directly with Leirvassbu. A "festival ticket" costs 350 NOK and gives access to all activities. If you are a premium GSM member at the time of purchase, the price is 300 NOK. (Not valid if you have a free trial GSM membership). The price remains the same wether you arrive on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
There are 150 tickets available in total. At the same time, to avoid this becoming a large loss project for us or Leirvassbu, we have decided that a minimum of 75 tickets must be sold before easter 2014. Otherwise we might have to cancel, so please if you want to come, don't hesitate too long before booking. Mark the weekend in the calendar and book today!

Book via email to info @ peakbook.org. List the full names of all the participants in your group, as well as adress, mobile number and an email adress to one contact person of the group. If you know already wether you will be staying in a tent or at the chalet, please tell us that as well.
"Festival tickets" are only refunded in case of the event being cancelled. You may however transfer your tickets to others if you have booked and somethings come up.

Prices for accomodation and food will be posted later..

Feel free to post questions in the comments field below if you think they may be of interest to others as well and we will answer there. This page will be updatet on a regularly basis, so why not mark it as a favourite by clicking on the star to the right of the title? Then you can easily find back to this article via "My Peakbook" and the "My favourites" sub option.

Bring the children!

Are you an outdoor loving family? Bring the children then! There will be a couple of organized tours aimed at families with children, and children under 16 yrs coming together with an adult don't not pay for the festival ticket. If many children are coming we will try to organize more activities aimed at children.
